I am currently waiting for a flight from Minneapolis to Denver. Our first flight has already been cancelled for unknown reasons (cancelled yesterday and weather came in this afternoon). Delta (will never take them again) does not seem hopeful for our 7:30 pm departure and the lovely gentleman that checked us in seemed to think we would get on a new flight Tuesday. He was a donkey butt.

So I have three teenage boys and myself. Two of them are not mine. What should we do? Spit for distance, knee volleyball, set up a photo booth?

Been there, done that….and my sympathies.

Syracuse, New York (really lovely but small and boring airport) and Chicago.  Do you have to stay near the gate in case your flight leaves?  That is extra boring.

The time I got stuck in Syracuse I told Dh I was not flying again unless it was really, really far away (say more than 2 days drive).  He talked me down, but flying and me are on thin ice.

When I was younger I used to love to fly…now I feel like little more than chattel when I fly.

Do any of the shops sell cards?

Demand that they find a place for you on another airline. They don't like this option and might not suggest it (its expensive for them) but they owe it to you.

If you are stuck there for the night, they need to put you all up in hotel (the hotels have vans and can come get you and then take you back to the airport) and provide you with vouchers for dinner.

sorry you are going through this.

Are you still playing the waiting game?

I hope you managed to get on your way. Also hope that the airport had a few amenities so you could occupy yourself a little - shop, buy a new book, get something to eat, use the free wi fi. I once bought a really great swimsuit during a delay. I never would have found it if the departure was on-time.  I find that the worst delays are the ones that happen after boarding. We were once held up almost 5 hours after boarding before the flight finally departed. We were all a little cabin crazy by that time but I especially felt for parents with wee ones. It was an intercontinental flight, so it was already a pretty grueling trip even before the long delay.

So our first flight was cancelled. We rebooked for the next one 3 hours later. That one was weather delayed almost an hour. I never realized that it takes an hour to de ice the plane. Flight had some turbulence and we landed on one wheel. When we put down on the other wheel a big chunk of the interior fell off. As we were walking out the co-pilot was talking to maintenance about the sparks that were flying out of the engine. And the cherry on top? When we picked up my son's bag it was ripped to the point of unuseable

Yikes. That goes beyond simply annoying and tiring. Glad everyone is okay. Hope your flight home is uneventful.

Yuck, what an awful time you guys had!! Sorry that happened.

My cousin went to Europe with her mom and oldest daughter in December (my cousin's 3 other kids stayed home with their dad), and their flight home from Barcelona was delayed 2 days, so they ended up spending all of Christmas Day flying home, and her husband and 3 younger kids were alone on Christmas. Bad planning, cutting it so close, but I still felt bad for them.

The last airport I flew from was Las Vegas. Honestly, I wouldn't have minded all that much if I were stuck there. Gambling at all terminals, alcohol, food, cheesy souvenirs? I could probably live there.

I'm sorry your flight was rescheduled. At least you were stuck with teens instead of toddlers?! Oh, wait. Yeah. I'm Sure it sucked, all the same.

dunno. did quite a bit of national flying and i have to day i havent found any difference in service. or should i say vastly different enough to say i'd choose one over the other. the same airlines has super helpful as well as nincompoops working and i guess luck defines who you get that day. i know sometimes if you insist they would put you on land transportation to get to your destination.

sorry for all that happened. did your son get a new bag from the airlines?

He plays travel hockey and we have no relatives closer than 1000 miles away so we have flown quite a bit. Third time just this hockey season and can usually get on Frontier or Southwest. This is only the second time ever flying Delta and the last time was 18 years ago to Alaaka. I have had some good and not so good experiences on airlines, this was by far the worst.

Best Delta employees were those that approved the new bag on the spot. They were pretty po'd at TSA who really helped the damage along.
