Diet Secret #2:

Stop arguing that rhubarb is a vegetable.  No matter how much you flap your gums about it, rhubarb pie is not health food.  So, no.  The USDA was not thinking "pie" when they said "6 servings of fruits and vegetables".

(I hope everyone is laughing, but I am not pulling these Secrets out of a hat.  Unfortunately.)

But-but-but-but pie has grain!!!

My diet secret is "making it for someone else doesn't take away the calories."  Ask me how I found out . . .

Eating a pound of chocolates (cakes or pie or whatever dessert I'm craving) makes me put on MUCH MUCH much more than a pound on my hips...

Diet secret: Eating a pound of broccoli to make up for the pound cake you just ate will not make the cake go away.

It does make the cake go away because I feel so righteous about the broccoli that I reward myself with more cake.  Cake.  Gone.

Which leads me to the next Diet Secret:

The reward for eating just one piece of ________ should not be another piece of ___________.

Give me a few minutes while I caffeinate.

Diet secret: When making chocolate truffles, don't shape them into balls, but leave them to resemble small pieces of coal. Kids are less likely to eat them, thus leaving more for one's piggy lil' mouth. :wink

Oh, come on-- carrots, nuts, eggs, cream cheese in the frosting.  My sister even puts slivered almonds on the top and I can make it with whole wheat flour.  Isn't that healthy?  The sugar is organic!  Do I have to lump this with rhubarb pie, too?

Aw, crud.

Which leads to the next Diet Secret:

"Organic" doesn't mean it's not junk.

Double crud.

Diet secret: The calories in the 1/2 inch thick layer of Brie don't go away, no matter how much organic baby greens you pile on the sandwich.

And pumpkin pie is SO a vegetable!

Technically pumpkin is a fruit.  Not sure what to do with that information.

This makes me very happy. The only use I can imagine is as a Jeopardy answer. But it still makes me happy.

My recipe also contains pineapple, raisins and coconut. Plus cinnamon, which is good for regulating blood sugar levels. It's practically a spirulina smoothie.

Diet secret: homemade tortillas will do you in just as sure as Mother's Day candy.  Something about them being warm and fresh and ...mmmmm...... that you don't think twice and next thing you know you've eaten 8.  (Plus the candy.  All the candy.  But I went on a walk afterwards, worked all day around the house and chicken coop and felt pretty righteous.)

Another one, and I simply cannot get it out of my head:  eating all the candy up all at once rather than spreading it out over a week does not prevent the calories from landing in your muffin top.  It seems to make so much sense when you don't think about it too much.  It's like, a fast moving car is hard to aim at.  A fast moving deer is hard to kill.  A fast kid is hard to catch.  Calories moving fast can't easily jump off onto your waist.   And it does keep dh from eating half of it, but maybe that's a good thing.

No, that could never be a good thing.

I'm trying to talk myself out of eating that second batch of salted caramels just to the left of my desk.  Ate the whole thing yesterday.  Mother's Day and all.  Calories don't count on Mother's Day, do they?

Eating the leftover food of your children's plates is not helping do the dishes (sorry DH, nice try).  Pecan pie does not count as a breakfast protein just because it has nuts.
