I just heard that my friend's mom passed away.

I want to do something nice for my friend. If we lived in the same city, I would bring her that proverbial casserole... but we don't. Any ideas?

Can you call a restaurant near her and have *them* deliver the proverbial casserole?

What about a gourmet dinner shipped to her? There's a few gourmet sites that will ship nationwide. This one I just saw even has vegetarian options.

It looks good... http://www.artikochef.com/index.htm

I must be more low class, but I was thinking of sending them a pizza...

A dinner sounds nice.

Or maybe a g/c for a massage or something (just thinking what I would want...) to escape from the reality of it all.

When my Mom died in the spring, one of my friends sent me a care package of chocolate and magazines. So much time is spent running around like crazy making arrangements that it was so wonderful to sit and eat crap and read fluff. I'd sent whatever you think will help your friend relax, make her life a bit easier, be it dinner, chocolates etc.

After my sweet mama passed away in October a great group of women sent me a care package. It actually arrived on the day of the internment and it brought tears to my eyes. It consisted of:

~ some candles and holders. (i light them in honor of my mom)
~ chocolate (of course)
~ wine (to go w/the chocolate)
~ bath tea (to relax my mind and body)
~ chai
~ a bracelet w/my mom's birthstone and name on it.
~ hot cocoa for the kids.

Those are just a few of the items that were sent to me. I cherished them all.

Good Luck~

Those are great ideas, everyone. Thank you! But I just got an email that they have set up a scholarship fund in her mom's memory, so I think that would be the best use of my money.
