If that's wealthy I'd really hate to see what it's like to be poor. Maybe he's trying to put a positive spin on screwing the average American. Soemthing like "Hey look how great my plan is...you're gonna be wealthy!"

According to the website below, the poverty line for a family of four is $18,850. There's amazingly little space between poverty and wealth.

amazing, when I made $20,000 a year (like 6 years ago) I had a hard time paying my bills and student loans while living at home. I can't even imagine how a family of 4 could manage that!!!!!! I found $40K to be a comfortable wage for one person. I'd say $65K for a single person would start to enter that "enough disposable income to be called wealthy" range.

Hmm, I don't know what we'd have to make for me to feel wealthy. I feel comfortable because I don't have to work outside the home and we have no money stress, but "wealthy" to me means having so much that you're frivolous. It's my own bias, but we aren't wealthy (to me) because we put our excess into savings rather than into the trappings of wealth. You can't be wealthy if you have one car (an old one too!), maybe one hole-free towel, and two pairs of jeans, can you?

This is also assuming that the people who make 65K a year don't have debt that they're trying to pay off.

If they're still paying out more than their bringing in...they have no more money than someone who makes less...

I've never gotten that. My mil would say he's a good man and that we just need to support him. She sounds like a battered wife when she says it.

incredible. so does that make my family of 8 plus two dogs on $19k-ish/year sub-poverty level? Then how come we make too much for public assistance? Hmm.

Go figure.

The Shrub never ceases to amaze me.

We have a family of four, my DH makes more than 20 grand a year, we live a fairly simple lifestyle, and yet I have bills piling up on my dining room table.

If $20,000 p/y = wealthy, why am I being forced to go back to work just to make ends meet?

And if $20,000 is wealthy, how come we still couldn't afford food the one year that we made $30,000? :

Yeah, but a family just above the poverty line isn't going to be paying too much, if anything, in taxes.
