Hi,
I hope it's okay to post this here...I'm not trying to compete with MDC or anything !

My group of friends from college communicate mostly by email. I was thinking today that we would keep in better touch if we had our very own discussion forum.

Does anyone know the in's and out's of setting one up? This would be a small and private forum, probably 10-15 members. How much does it generally cost (to set up and to maintain)?

I found one web site on line that let you set up the forum for free but then you had to pay $5/month to be ad free plus $10/month for hosting. I don't think I could make the forum private (requiring a password) over there either.

Any info would be appreciated!

there are places where you can set up free discussion boards.

I just did a quick google search and found these:

I love invision free.
Or you could set up a yahoo list serv which is free, and you have the option of posting on the 'board' or posting by email and receiving emails. Either one of those would be my top pick though.
There is always world crossing... but it scares me!

I'm an admin for a playgroup board. we use ezboard right now. it's fairly cheap (depending on how much traffic/how many members you have). we only have around 70. You can try a board for free for a month I think

I have one from Invisionfree, and love it!! I pay for nothing, so it's all free. You can make it private as well! It's not too complicated to set up either.
