Just for fun.

When I graduated from high school my aunt gave me a bathroom scale as a gift. The best part was, my mom had given it to her for Christmas!

For my SIL's wedding (they are strictly Hindu) they got a lamp that when lit, magically lights up with Jesus' face on it.

On the same line (my dh and I are Hindu), one year for Christmas my mom gave my dh a screen saver with Bible verses on it. We got a joint gift of tickets to see Left Behind, the movie.

7yo: "Mom,I know which man is on a quarter and which on is on a nickel. They both have ponytails, but one man has a collar and the other man is naked. The naked man was our first president."

My stepdad loves to give my mom innapropriate gifts. Last Christmas, he gave her a set of congos. For mother's day, he gave her a pair of sea kayaks. You would have to know my mother to truly understand how insane he was to think she would want or ever use either.

We have decided that he is buying himself gifts when he buys for her. I'm wondering now what she is getting him for father's day............

My inlaws have given me a cross necklace, a disney princess lamp, and tea towels cross stitched with kitties on various occasions.

I about did. And couldn't think of a way out. So I told her I would show only her. I need to grow some balls, man. What kind of person asks their DIL to do that? Sheesh.

Sexy thong underwear. Given to me at the IL's Christmas, by SIL. They have the tradition that gifts are opened one at a time, and held up for all to see before moving to the next person. I wanted the earth to swallow me. I had to hold up these tiny, see-through things in front of MIL, FIL, BIL, etc.

ETA: At least I wasn't asked to model it.

Ann-Marita. I deleted my usual signature due to, oh, wait, if I say why, that might give too much away.

Acrylic sweaters. Many times, by MIL. When I think of all the little acrylics who gave their lives so that I could haul those sweaters to goodwill...

One of them even had sparkles woven in. It was unfathomably bad. MIL liked it so much she bought herself one too.

MIL gave SIL and BIL a crystal wine decanter for their tenth anniversary. She told me that maybe when we have more room (we were in a small condo at the time) I'll be able to have some nice things too. She strongly implied that this might involve a similar wine decanter. I cannot express how much I do not want one or how useless it would be in my life. SIL apparently liked it fine, though.

I once got a perfectly square fake leather purse from Dh's grandparents. Again, a hideous marvel. Beats the year they got me a rubber scraper for Christmas, though!

Can't give up actin' tough, it's all that I'm made of. Can't scrape together quite enough to ride the bus to the outskirts of the fact that I need love. ~ Neko Case

I've gotten several of those.

I got leopard print polyester lingerie from my staid, spinster-esque auntie for a wedding gift. ewwwww. ewwwwww. ewwwwww.

Lingerie from MIL for a bridal pregnancy. Worst part, IT WAS HERS! The woman never gives new things, they're always something just lying around the house, and if its clothes, she doesn't wash them before giving them. YUCK!!

For my SIL wedding shower (with her friends) my Mom gave her a lamp... and the base was a baby carriage. My Mom swears that she didn't even think about it in the context of 'give me grandchildren', but that it was a cute lamp and on sale.

For my 21st birthday, I got a BEAUTIFUL nighty from a guy I had NO INTEREST IN! We were not even really friends, and I was head over heals for someone, and he knew that!

As inappropriate as it was, he had it shipped to me, and I couldn't give it back to him, nor did I know where it came from. I LOVED that nighty, it was so soft and the best piece of lace I've ever touched. I wore it for nearly 10 years before it finally gave out. It's the only piece of anything I've taken such care of.

We got a TV and a video game thingy for Christmas (after a family Thanksgiving talk about how we were trying to simplify things and un-plug the kids.) from teh ILs.

I think the used, unwashed MIL lingerie might be the Big Winner here though

as for inappropriate..my Exboyfriend sent me a beautiful silk nightie and short robe from Victoria Secrets for Christmas about 2 years ago.. I returned it for Store credit and got some really great perfume instead... ( I have been married for 7 years)
