Doug and I want to buy a house next year. Kidlet #4 in cooking away right now.

We want alot of kids, but I grew up having to share my room with my 3 sisters : I hated it!
I wouldnt mind having 2 kids in one room, but no more than that.

I was checking out houses yesterday, and I could barely find a 4 bedroom, much less a 5 bedroom.
Any 5+ bedrooms where these huge and $$$$$$$$$ Mansion type things.
I dont want or need an inhouse tennis court thank you.

So what about where you live, can you find a larger bedroomed house/apt even.

you can get a 5 bedroom here, probably in the 'hood for around $100,000
in the more 'ok' mature neighborhoods probably around $150,000-200,000, you can build a new house hear with 4 bedrooms for about $150,000 in a great neighborhood

My house is a 2,000 sq ft. 3 bedroom, it could be a 4 bedroom (our bedroom is 25x15, it could be split if we wanted) We payed $73,000. (including 5 acres of land)

If you want a big house for cheap, move to the boonies and buy a fixer-upper. Like an old farmhouse. Otherwise your probably SOL. Houses are soooo expensive near town.

I would guess 250-300K. We looked at some four-bedrooms for 200Kish, but they all needed some work.

Well it would all depend on the age of house, size of yard and where abouts in the town it was. For example we bought our house 3 years ago it is 3 bedroom 1350sq feet upstairs and 1000sq feet in the basement, there are 2 rooms in the basement that could be turned in to bedrooms, the basement needs a lot of work someday, and we have just over .5 acre, this house is not the best needs some work and we paid $86 000.00 now it is worth $150 00.00. So it also depends on how the market is. But Blah blah blah a nice one would be anywhere from $150 000.00-$300 000.00 and up but that's getting into lots of land and fancy house.

It would really depend on the area..
If its a city/town known for high crime and bad neighborhoods , also west of the city where the commute would be 1-2 hrs to Boston you can most likely get one for under $400,000
But in and around the city and in good city/towns you are looking at over $600,000 +..maybe a one at $500,000 but thats one in not good condition

200,000 to 400,000.
Depends though. You might be able to get an old house that needs some TLC for cheaper.

depends on the neighborhood - the size of yard - if you want land etc.
Going cheap and having a very small yard would be starting at 150000.

We have a 5 brdm house. It's not a mansion. Most of the houses in our neighborhood are 3-4 bedrooms. Ours is kind of an odd ball that way. We paid $170,000 for it 5 years ago. We'd get about that for it now if we sold. I think housing proces around us are extremely reasonable, especially compared to other places we've lived (Denver, Atlanta, Pittsburgh).

You know the funny things is, it's not like I live in Cali, I live in fricking WISCONSIN. As in Cows..........Moo. Milk, Cheese, etc.........

I cant stand this, the price of land is nuts.

Lots for sale contain to yards KWIM. Acreace is $$$$$$, even if the house is a fixer upper farm house, which there arent many left anymore.

5 bedrooms around 2500-3000 sq feet (so large but not huge) on 1/10 of an acre, in a safe area could easily run you 400,000 and well the sky's the limit from there.

A woman worked for me last year who was from Wisconsin I believe. The housing up there is pretty pricey, compared to TX at least!

around here it would range from 150,000 up to as expensive a McMansion you wanted! but like in my neighborhood, which is the more affordable part of a nice area it would be 150,000-170,000

farm houses are hard to afford b/c they tend to come with farms
farms are pricey in this state and granted I would LOVE a farm, we just cant afford one right now, unless my uncle in Conn. decides to just give me acouple million bucks

Phew, I had to wipe a tear from laughing that hard just thinking about buying a five bedroom house around here. Let's see, we are somewhat in the market for a 3 bedroom, but those start at around a million, so we won't be making a purchase anytime soon. I'm assuming you mean a habitable house that you would actually want to live in? At least $1.5 million. Sad but true.

I did a little search in my area and found 5 bedrooms from 190,000 up to nearly 7 million. I have a feeling the lower end are maybe fixerupper types, but something close to that price would be feasible.

Anywhere from $100,000, to $200,000, depending on how nice it is. South MN. Our 3-bedroom century house cost $95,000, but it had been gutted and redone on the inside.

There are a few for sale in this ara around 160-170k, then the prices jump up to at least 240k. I only looked at the first page of results on realtor.com. The houses were older and not very big, but I live in an older suburb that mostly has older, not-very-big houses anyway.

...

Looking at other houses, you can get bigger and more charming with more money but no McMansions.

In Atlanta, GA it would be half a million for an older house and upwards to several million for a McMansion
