Dh was in a minor accident this evening. He was driving straight through an accident, a van came up along side him and her driver's side mirror hit his passenger's side mirror, breaking hers as she turned right. (He was in our camper, but was completely in his lane)

She insisted on a police report even after the officer assured her that it would be a claim under $500. They exchanged info and all that good stuff.

Do we have to call our insurance company? We have no damage to the camper and will not be filing for a claim - but should we call and say "hey - we were in an accident, no damage to us, but there is a police report out." Or do we not call and hope that this lady realizes that it's not worth raising deductibles for a mirror.

Oh - dh is fine, just pissed because he's very cognizant of where the camper is and in this particular instance it was the other driver's 8-9 year old daughter who claimed that we hit them and "should pay.":

Is SHE filing a report? If she is, then you have to as well most likely (that's how it is in our state anyway).

If one party notifies the DMV here of an accident, the other party has to notify them as well within 72 hours of accident or else (not sure of the penalties). It's hard to say, as laws differ state to state, and it depends even more on your individual insurance.

Did the officer make a ruling on who's fault it as? You can contest it if she tried to blame your DH.

I'd call and say "Someone hit DH but we don't be filing a claim."

The officer didn't even want to write up a report, but did so at the lady's insistance. No one recieved a ticket, so I'm assuming that makes it a "no fault" accident?

The lady just kept yelling that dh had hid het and she'd be filing a report. So I should call later today and sort of give a "heads up"?
