What convience items would you never want to do without?

For me it's:

electric kettle
rice cooker/steamer
smoothie blender stick (I don't have a regular blender anymore)
toaster oven

and of course, the microwave

LizaBear 07-12-2006 05:14 PM

our microwave

Jenifer76 07-12-2006 05:15 PM

Coffeemaker, hands down.

Sharlla 07-12-2006 05:17 PM

Microwave

kelly81 07-12-2006 05:19 PM

Microwave!!!

crissei 07-12-2006 05:20 PM

Potato peeler!
Most people probably don't consider this a conveinence item but, you probably weren't forced to use a paring knife growing up!

I HATE using a potato peeler on potatoes...carrots, on the other hand -- I tried to use a paring knife on one of those the other day... :

sunshinestarr 07-12-2006 05:33 PM

electric kettle... i'll probably think of more..
oh.. my laptop!! does that count?

Lazyhead 07-12-2006 05:49 PM

coffee maker
bread machine
what about appliances like washing machine & dishwasher?

I never use our microwave--it's basically a giant clock in our kitchen!

taz925 07-12-2006 06:09 PM

Rice cooker - I can't make it otherwise.

MotherWhimsey 07-12-2006 06:10 PM

water heater, dh doesn't need cold showers. (they need a snickering smiley)
and the washing machine.

pumpkin 07-12-2006 06:21 PM

my super-automatic espresso machine

coffee, espress, cappucinno all at the touch of a button
despite the high $ initial cost - its saved me a fortune b/c I no longer have the excuse to go out for coffee on my way to work

I call it the 'Coffee Altar'

InfoisPower 07-12-2006 06:33 PM

My Toaster, tea kettle, and blender.

Kathryn 07-12-2006 06:59 PM

Microwave. My daughter would kill me without it. She refuses to think about eating or what she wants to eat until about 3 minutes before she's having a freaking breakdown because I can't fix what she's picked out fast enough.

mamato2boys 07-12-2006 07:04 PM

toaster
bread machine
mini-food processor, whips up a batch of hummus in a minute

BBerryBliss 07-12-2006 07:20 PM

Gosh, umm I dunno. I've lived without a lot of modern things, including a water heater and it wasn't too bad. I'd say my fridge I wouldn't/couldn't live without.

My microwave is a big clock too! DH uses it more then me, but we wouldn't even have one if MIL hadn't insisted that we "can't live without it".

I was forced to use a potato peeler while my mom used the paring knife, I hate using a peeler they take longer for me, I only use the peeler for carrots.

boongirl 07-12-2006 08:31 PM

I could live without most of the above but the water heater is definitely something I would never, ever live without. Cold showers No baths. No warm washing clothes: How would I wash my face

katt 07-12-2006 08:39 PM

Rice Cooker

DebraBaker 07-12-2006 08:40 PM

Coffee maker (yes, I've boiled water, put the filter in a styrofoam cup with a hole in the bottom and it was a pain in the ass.)

Rice cooker.

Microwave.

fek&fuzz 07-12-2006 08:41 PM

coffee maker
hot water heater
toaster

I had a microwave and just used it for the timer, when that broke I took it to the dump and bought a timer. Certainly made for a lot more counter space.

SiValleySteph 07-12-2006 08:49 PM

The two we use the most:
Coffee maker
Rice cooker

DH does use a french press at work and I don't mind making rice on the stove, so we could probably go without. We hardly use our microwave.

Penelope 07-12-2006 08:52 PM

Upright mixer and washing machine. I don't have anything listed in the OP except a microwave - isn't that funny?

Coffee bean grinder is pretty nice, although I could use an old-fashioned coffee mill just as easily, if I had one.

Outofmymindyo 07-12-2006 09:46 PM

Well, we're not that great at making rice to begin with and living in Japan just makes us want sticky rice rather than regular rice, so our rice cooker is a must.

We also wouldn't like to be without the microwave either. Matter of fact we just bought our new one yesterday since we left our old one behind when we moved.

delicious 07-12-2006 10:06 PM

clothes washer. and i want to marry my vitamix. i suppose oven and stove, too. we don't have a microwave. oh and fridge. so i can keep my beer cold.
