I think diamnds are ugly, and I won't buy them in any case. My engagement ring is an opal.

Never been a diamond or a gold lover.
That being said I have a white gold wedding band with like, 10 small diamond chips in it. I think our set cost $300.

Would I buy something different this time? Probably just a whitegold or silver band would've been fine.

I have a diamond engagement ring of about .50 carat. When I accepted it I was not aware of the awful history of diamonds. If I never receive any more-I wouldn't buy them myself, DH gives me jewelery as a gift once in a great while-that's fine with me. There are other gems stones I find prettier anyway.

Plus, I am not that much of a jewelery person anyway. Besides my engagement and wedding rings, the only other jewelery I ever wear is for religious reasons-medals, scapulars, and such.

Oh, and I totally agree about what PPs have said about people making inappropriate comments about the size of one's diamond. When I first got engaged, one woman at work looked at my ring and said, "Very nice. That diamond is very petite." I am like, WTH? You basically said it was small, which I don't think it is...I actually think large diamond look kinda vulgar anyway.

Actually, yes. It is shameful that you are so cavalier about the deaths that go into your jewelry.

I don't get the point.

As buyers you can't indiscriminately buy just because you like how they look.
In speaking to ppl in countries with no civil strive and diamonds mines in Africa, I understand how important it is for their economies that consumers continue to buy diamonds, it is the reason I now buy because I had stopped for a bit, because my home country had no way of proving provenance.
But even they ask that we inquire into where the diamonds come from, and that we not support conflict diamonds.

I make the choice each time I buy diamonds to ask pointed questions about where the stones come from, it is my job as the buyer to question the provenance of the stones if that information is not freely and openly given, and to make sure that the diamond I have paid for is NOT the cause of a multiated child or death!!!!!!!
Because by not doing your part in the buying process that may be the cost for someone a world away.

But then if you are so blantly buying what ever is pretty I doubt that you are looking at companies that have a proven track record (Graff, Rand, Tiffany) but rather like my friends are just giddy with happiness over 2 cts from where ever.

Would you watch a mugger beat a man severely, leaving him bloodied on the ground, taking his wallet and all of his jewelry - and then buy from him the ring he just stole off his victim?

Does it become "OK" when you don't have to witness the mugging?

Now, I'm just waiting that ring to arrive & for DP to surprise me with it. I'm really anxious!
That's great! I think you'll be very happy with how beautiful Moissanite is in person. I just got a Moissanite ring this week and it's beautiful. Enjoy!!

i have a huge 'russian star'
which is like a diamond in most ways,
but it is lab created.
my higher quality than a cz
more money than cz, but not NEAR the price of diamonds.

i didn't realize people were "anti diamond'
im just anti spending lots of $$

if you do like looks of diamond, try the russian star lab stones.

That's a nice looking ring, as well. I'm sure I will be happy with my ring. I love the look of diamonds (inherited an heirloom piece with 3 tiny stones from my great-grandmothers' and grandmother's wedding rings), so when I researched moissanite, I knew that was what I wanted.

I plan on getting DP a titanium band with no stones that he likes online. Guys are so easy!
