I'm tired of having no friends, so today, on a whim I posted a "personal ad" on Craigslist looking for Gal Pals.

And now I'm TERRIFIED! I'm trying to resist the urge to go and delete it.

Just wanted to get that off my chest.

Hey, it can't hurt. Worst case, you meet some people you don't love and never hear from them again. Best case, you form a circle of like-minded friends. Woo!

Have you checked the tribe area. I actually have become involved with a playgroup through MDC. It is great, because they're woman with very similar views.

I really know how you feel. Making friends once you have kids can be SO hard. There were some good recommendations here. I just wanted to offer a though 'cause I totally know how you feel.

Just trust your instincts about people, the craigslist thing may work.

Thanks for the support! I've met some moms through a local AP group etc, but the biggest issue is that I WOH. And most moms do all their socialising during the weekday. I do like the women I've met, but I don't know that I'll ever be really good friends with any of them. I have quite a few acquaintences, but no real friends.

Ugh, I don't recommend Craigslist for that purpose. Too dangerous. Trust me. Been there, done that.

Oh man, I use to live in Longmont, a few years ago. And I lived in Westminster right after I got married. Unfortunately I am now south of the Tech center in Parker. No where near you. Have you gone to a LLL meeting in Longmont? I know they have quite a few and you maybe could find like-minded friends there. I know that Ft. Collins has an API group. And Boulder has a lot of AP moms. Have you posted in finding your tribe?

I was so lonely in NC. For a while there I started going pretty nutty. Then we moved here and I found such a wonderful network of like-minded friends. When I move back to NC I'm going to start an API group on my own and make more friends. No way am I going back to that isolating place and sitting there by myself being all miserable.

How about going to some La Leche League meetings? You're pregnant, right? That's a great place to meet people and in our area we have several meetings to choose from.

What about starting an attachment parenting group? Post that on craigslist or in newspaper.

Good luck!

Goodness, this sounds like me. Like you I have tried meeting Mamas through the local AP groups some I met here from the tribal area but to be honest not a lot of connection. Definitely women I would call accquaintances but friends not really. I am also a WOHM so that also compounds things though as a instructor I have a totally kooky schedule that pretty much limits me, I teach a night class and now a morning class. My free time tends to be most kiddos nap times.

Anyway sorry for the ramble on your thread but sending you some good vibes because I totally can relate to being lonely. My bestest friend is a childless dude who is 1100 miles away. I can call him when things are rough but I so want girlfriends to chat with and hang with..

Let us know what happens, you might inspire me to place my own ad on Craigslist.

Well, I have 4 responses that I need to email back. So far so good. They all seem genuine.

I've kind of given up on finding mom friends that I can connect with. I attend LLL, and I'm a member of 3 AP parenting groups in the area. But, my working is the biggest issue since pretty much everyone who shares my parenting philosopies doesn't work. I did find another mom's group but I was so completely on the opposite side of the spectrum from those moms that I didn't go back.

OP--Have you ever tried organizing something on YOUR time with those groups? ie. Send out a simple invite "Pot luck dinner at my house Saturday at 4pm" or "Meet us at Main St. Park at 1pm Sunday for a playdate. Bring bats, balls, bubbles and anything else you'd like to share!"
