I can understand hidding budding nipples. I remember how embarressed i was when I saw a picture of me and my nipples were clearly showing : I was prolly 8-10 until I saw that picture I didnt think much about my chest. After that I have always still been aware of my nips. I cannot stand for them to be pointy. I go without a bra 99% of the time now but I always wear shirts that do not show my nips.

As far as the padded bra's for 6yo if it is to make them look as tho they have bigger breasts :Puke but if it is to cover the nipples so the girl is more comfortable :

I'm not debating whether or not a 12 y/o is hung up on looks, goodness knows they are. It's just sad that instead of telling them "hey, you don't need to be hung up on your puffy developing nipples, they're just fine the way they are," we're handing them padded bras, which is the same as saying, "you're absolutely right, your nipples are embarassing, for the love of all that is good, please cover them up!!!"

I guess I interpret it differently. I see it more as, you know, you have choices. Some women like this type of bra that does a, b, and c and some women like this other type, which does d, e, and f. I don't think there's anything inherently anti-female about not wanting your nipples to show if it's a personal preference.

I clicked on "post" before I meant to...I had intended to add that I can see the need for padding for comfort's sake, for those with sensitive nipples.

annettemarie, I partially agree with you about choices, it's always nice to have choices, but it bothers me when some of those options and/or the choice to use those options are driven by negative societal issues. "Personal preference" does not mean that a particular person's preference hasn't been formed by the societal pressures around them.

We're all entitled to our preferences, but I think we owe it to ourselves and to our daughters, and our daughters' daughters, to question our preferences.

I agree 100% I personally do not want people staring at my chest because my nips are way out there if I get cold or whatever. I think it is fine if you are comfortable with that as well. Life is about choices that is what makes everyone special we are all different.

I can understand teaching a child to be ok with there body the way it is but sometimes they are not gonna be happy with how something looks and if they can make thereself comfy by doing something about it then I am totally for that.

Perhaps. And I can see your point, I guess. If it was my own daughter, I would certainly want to explore it with her if she was open to it. On the other hand, the whole "questioning of preferences" other than our own reminds me of the lady in lactivism who had someone walk up to her and say, "It's great that you're nursing, but it's a shame you feel like you need to use a coverup." After a while, it just gets sort of interogatory and there comes a point where others preferences really aren't our business, regardless of how they're formed. Maybe. I'm working this out in my head.

If they were attracted to the big boobs that makes the kids look like ADULTS, they wouldn't be pedophiles. Make sense? Pedophiles are pedophiles because they are attracted to children. It rarely matter if they're boys or girls because children look about the same at young ages anyway.
I'm glad someone pointed this out

Too cold up there??? No,I don't think women would be running out in the streets boobs all flying around here either. But I am jealous now that I know Canada has equality.

Yeh,I would never tell someone what they should or shouldn't buy for their kid but it still wierds me out.I'm with funshine on teaching our daughters not to be embarrased.Lets do all we can to teach our daughters that they are great even if that's a hard uncomfortable(not talking about nipple sensitivity issues)lesson to learn.

That makes me SICK!!! That is truly deplorable... :

You know, those silly little shirts that they sell for girls, LITTLE girls, that say things like "Sexy little kitty" those really get under my skin, but the bras are just disgusting...

I don't know who to blame though... I wish I did.

I haven't read the whole thread, but this just disgusts me. Bratz (toys and anything w/ the Bratz name on it) are the most disgusting items aimed at little girls right now. Last year, DP & I saw a Bratz halloween costume complete w/ half-top, mini skirt & fishnet stockings at Target (the pic of the girl on the package even had hot pink extensions in her hair & makeup on). I've seriously had enough...I am going to write a letter to the toy company that makes them this week.

It just worries me, ya know... I mean, children have to be pretty lucky to not be victimized in this country nowadays... and to allow your child to wear something like that...

All though, for the record... the thongs don't bother, me, no one sees those...

sign me up for the campaign! i've questioned this since i was a young child. i once begged my mom to walk down the street w/ no shirt on, JUST TO SEE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN TO HER. she wouldn't hear of it. i'm so gonna do it one day, though. (and i have DDs, too! )

I agree, there's a line. On this thread, I'm speaking in an idealistic sense. I wouldn't actually approach somebody purchasing a bra such as this, or whose daughter were wearing the bra, and instruct them to question their actions.

All this "sexy shirts will make our children pedophile bait" stuff really smacks of victim-blaming.

Seriously, take me with you. I'll buy my daughter a thong at any age if she wants one. Regular underwear is so uncomfortable, I was wearing thongs at around 11 when I was younger.

Ok...so I understand were you are coming from. How did you know they were for kindergarteners? It doesn't say for kindergarteners to look sexy in on the label. All girls change at differnt rates! If you are small with large breast and you are conscious about it then sure. Let the wear padded bras! Usually kindergardenerS dont have large breasts though. My point is if the padded bras fit some of them and some need them then they should provide them. But if it is just to be sexy then I totally think that is so not cool. Most people don't think they are sexy though. I mean kindergardeners

My daughter is 11 and started wearing a bra -unpadded this summer. I believe she needs a padded bra but want her to bring it up. A lot of girls in her class started wearing padded bras and got their periods at 7 to 8 years old. I thought that was crazy but it was true. One girl started wearing padded bra at 6 and needed it
