His arms are scratched up from the airbag and he's going to be sore tomorrow, but he's ok. I had to leave work at 1:30 and meet him at the ER, then run by the tow yard and the police station. It was the other driver's fault (she ran a stop sign and he t-boned her) and he's already gotten authorization from her insurance for a rental car. The car's pretty much totaled, even though he wasn't going very fast.

I'm worried about my car insurance rates. He's still on my account. How much do rates usually increase with an accident in which the other driver was at fault and there were no serious injuries?

My rates never went up in the accidents where it was someone else's fault. We're with Geico.

unless you are in a no fault state the other drivers insurance will cover everthing including your stbx medical bills car towing etc, If he has any continuing pain the other drivers isurance may even pay him a settlement .

My dh is an agent. According to him, if it is definitely a "no fault" accident- he has no fault whatsoever- his rates should not go up at all. Hope all is well!

Should we try to get the other driver's insurance to pay for his medical bills even if our insurance covers it? He was taken to the military hospital by a civilian ambulance, so we'll receive a bill for the ambulance ride. Our insurance covers it 100% and it won't raise our rates or anything because it's Tricare, but should we turn it in to the car insurance company or just not worry about it?

Yes, if the accident was her fault her insurance should pay all of the medical bills. You can have your insurance company pay them for now and her insurance company will reimburse for the costs.

Absolutely turn it in to her insurance. Some medical insurances- even the best ones that cover everything- will not cover anything having to do with an accident that is not your fault. You get this weird little form to fill out asking if the injury was the result of an accident, who was at fault, and what insurance company they should look to for reimbursement. Her insurance should cover everything.

I'm not worried about it getting paid for. Tricare pays for ambulance rides, period. I could call an ambulance for a hangnail and it would get paid for. Tricare works differently than civilian insurance companies. The hospital actually told us that we may not even see a bill because they usually send it to them automatically and they pay it. So that may actually be a moot point.
