Heee! I definitely am feeling some schadenfreude! :

I can't stand when people think they are above the law (and note: I wouldn't be happy if *most* people were going to jail, but I *am* happy that Paris Hilton is).

to you Paris!

Oops, this would help.

Well, her lawyers could get her off....so again, the laws *don't* really apply to her.

I think it's fantastic. I hate repeat drunk driving offenders. They make me crazy mad. I had to go to a family friend's funeral after he was hit and killed by a drunk driver when he was riding his bike to work. He and my dad were bike commuters together for years, we were close with their kids, his death had a major impact on how I view drunk driving. :

Paris belongs in jail for this. I think it's great that she was convicted.

It really seemed like she didn't take it seriously at all. Her mom made some snarky comments during the trial too, and that probably didn't help matters. I think she fully deserves the jail time and I'm glad they're actually going to put her there.

You're not awful. Well, if you are, so am I.

And Kathy Hilton is lucky I wasn't the judge - I'd have smacked her with a contempt citation and put her behind in jail, too.

Other than that, FINALLY. Finally someone is taking one of these so-called "role models" to task for their irresponsible, and in this case, criminal, behavior.

Commit the crime, do the time, Paris. Can't wait to see pictures of her in the orange jumpsuit with no makeup, no push-up bra, and six weeks worth of roots.

I'm so sorry JoAida; and this tragedy is exactly why drunk drivers, especially repeat offenders should be heavily punished. It breaks my heart when I read or hear about yet another person killed by someone too selfish to simply call a cab. And, I'm sure Paris could afford a measly cab ride home. I am thrilled she was sentenced to jail time. Driving under the influence is a serious crime with potentially tragic consequences - an offender should be jailed and a repeat offender should suffer serious jail time (IMO).

My slight glee is tempered by having just read of the pay-to-stay jails in some areas...imagine she'll be looking into one of these.

The judge specifically ruled those out and picked one just for her.

I'm glad she's going to have to suffer the consequences, but I really think it's just more press for her. I mean, think of what the media will do with this.

Yeah, I was happy to hear it - particularly after reading about how she tried to place the blame on her assitant (they didn't tell her) even after she signed statements about her driving restrictions. The pissy comments from her mother really take the cake.

I have no pity for her. She got a lot more lieniency than most people would the first two DUIs.

I too am glad to see Paris pay...I missed what her mom said though. Anyone care to summarize?

Uh, she's being thrown in jail for driving with a suspended license, not being a repeat drunk driving offender. I think this is totally stupid. Our prisons are overcrowded as it is. Are we really so scared of the big bad socialite so that she needs to be locked up? Please.

We're not scared of the big bad socialite, but she does need to be treated like everyone else when she's caught breaking the law. I personally know someone who has been sentenced to jailtime for driving under revocation, it actually happens to people, and well it should if they brazenly defy both the written law and the court order not to drive for however long. And the person I know didn't even have the revocation for drunk driving.

Paris isn't above the law, and I'm glad she's in jail. I'm just mad they put her in protective custody rather than in the general population.

YAY!!!! All those who drink & drive deserve a little jail time. My BIL was killed in a drunk driving accident, and I know firsthand the devistation it causes.

What I thought was interesting in the whole thing is the option that celebrities can buy their way into easier sentences! WTF???

Hey, it's all part of a corrupt justice system. Rich people can get better defense teams, big name lawyers, pay off witnesses, etc etc etc.

I'd have done the same!

I just can't imagine doing something that stupid- who signs a paper with a cop and doens't bother reading it?

She repeatedly acted like laws don't apply to her- so she's landed in jail for about a month (45 days sentence probably means serving 30.) It sounds appropriate to me!

I think it is good that she is having to go to jail, although I hate to wish jail on anyone. She should not have broke her probation. She knew the consequences. You do the crime, You do the time.

Celebrities should not get off just because they have money. But then again, it is all about what you have and who you know. Oh and who you are.

Absolutely.

My aunt was hit by a drunk driver when she was 8 months pregnant. She survived, thank goodness, but the drunk driver did not.
It was also luck that she was driving her minivan that day and not their smaller car.

Drinking and driving infuriates me. What complete disregard for your fellow man to do something so reckless.

I don't want to be on the same road as a person speeding in a car with the lights off and I think jails are overcrowded too, but perhaps cracking down on the rich and famous will give them second thoughts aboout acting like they own the world. Probation was the chance she got and she had terms to follow. she chose not to and SHOULD h ave to pay the price just as you and I would.
