Speaking of carseats...hehehe....

Have you seen the new Sportage commercial? It shows a toddler sleeping in the moving car with the chest clip right at her belly button and the straps super loose. My DH can't see why I thought it was irresponsible....

Yes! Every time DH and I see that commercial and that barely-there carseat harness, we are shocked and outraged! :

I haven't seen that commercial, but I remember seeing another commercial before where they showed a baby in an infant carseat forward facing and that really irritated me. I actually saw two guys once driving in a car with a baby in an infant carseat forward facing on the freeway. What good is it to use a carseat if you aren't going to use it correctly?

why would they show an infant seat used incorrectly? i just don't get it...shall we write letters?

and okay, so when you buy a new/used car, isn't there a handbook that comes with it that shows the proper way to use a carseat? as well as the consequences to using/not using it properly??

i don't understand it....do they want, perhaps invite lawsuits??? i'm just confused...

Oh wow. I havent seen that Kia commercial but the other Kia ad that bothers the hell out of me is the one where they are playing "Musical Cars" JMO but I think it looks totally crazy and dangerous, gunning engines and such trying to score a spot before the next Kia. Alot of teenagers are probably seeing this ad as well seeing as that its on all the time. I think its a very irresponsible ad.
They were also the culprit for the whole "So Long Fairwell" ad that ran every two commercial spots over the holidays that just about drove me over the edge.
Kia just needs to stop and hire a new ad campagne manager imo.

Wow! I haven't seen that one but I was irked all winter by the (I think it was) Sears commercials that were about a mom being super shopper. Several of them showed her putting her kids in or taking them out of the car to go shopping and the kids were wearing super thick bulky snowsuits in the carseats and the straps weren't tight at all. It was making me crazy!

Whatever. For the amount of time it takes to get a good shot of ANYTHING on film, particularly of a child, I'm not going to take them to task for letting the little toddler-actor have a little ease in the straps while he's waiting around for them to get the take. It's not a PSA for correct carseat usage, it's a car commercial.

but the car certainly appears to be in motion....if my kid were the actor i'd not be too pleased about the unsafe working conditions...

Yeah, my DH commented that he wondered how many car wrecks there were while shooting that particular commercial.

Yeah that one drives me nutty. I'll have to tell my DH about the car seat ad, he'll go nuts - he runs a car seat safety program here.

Your DH must get pretty annoyed just driving around everyday seeing all the ppl who are not using their carseats properly. I see it all the time here in our town and I also see a lot of those carseats with the overhead shield, which makes me cringe. I'm surprised they are not illegal. My DH has had to help friends re-install their incorrectly installed carseats many times, and it was only b/c he happened to notice it and insisted that he should help them re-install the seat (most of them didn't even seem concerned that my DH was concerned). I wish ppl would at least utilize the car seat clinics if they don't have a clue or don't want to bother following the directions on how to install a seat. I know in our area, they do not advertise car seat clinics like they do in larger cities. I actually had to go through a lot of effort to locate a CPS tech to check our seats, but I'm glad we did it.

He drives around with flyers about the program and sticks them on people's windshield or if they are there he will say something (very nicely, not being rude but just advising them that there is a free program to help make sure they are installed correctly).

I saw that too, and noticed the car seat harness, and was bugged by it.

When I lived in Sweden, there was an article in a parenting magazine about car seats, and car seat safety. As many of you on this board know, Sweden keeps children rear facing to 3-4 years old, and they gave the guidelines to know when your child has outgrown the rearfacing seat. Then the picture they had in the article was of a child that was clearly too large for the carseat he was in (his head was WAY over the top of the seat, even his ears were above the top of seat). That one bugged me even more since the picture didn't match at all what the article was trying to tell parents.

That's nice of him to go out of the way to personally try to speak to ppl about it.
