We have a lot of melissa and doug and I know they are made in China. Does anyone know if they've ever been recalled and had any issues with lead in paint? thanx.

I think there have been some. BUt not totally sure. I have seen various mamas around here on M&D boycotts, so that's why I'm assuming so. Which is sad, because it's one of the brands I told everyone to get the kids for Christmas.

Part of the clock toy that was sold in Europe tested positive for lead and was recalled.

To my husband I am wife, to my kids I am mother, but for myself I am just me.

Is that the only one? Is that why people are boycotting?

That's the only one and it was a couple years ago. The yellow (I think) in one of the clock lots that were sold tested over the limit for Europe but under the limit in the U.S.

Yes, that's the only one. It's not the only reason that people are boycotting, though.

Can you tell me why they're boycotting? I want to make sure I'm not supporting something I shouldn't be.

Our local organic clothing and natural toys store won't carry them anymore. I think they are just too iffy. The paint chips, their made in China, and they've become sorta corporate. Some people claim to have done tests at home and have had positive lead results. Others have only natural toys and kids testing high in lead. They got rid of the MID toys and said their children's levels dropped.
We're just playing it safe. I don't think anything is set in stone. MID issued a statement saying their toys are safe. But of course they did......lol. I personally haven't gotten rid of ours, but I do keep almost all of them put away now. I think I left three MID things out. I'm waiting to hear more.

There's a big thread in mindful home management about M&D to do with lead. I haven't read through it yet though. http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=794139

I suspect that a lot of it is simply that M&D are the best known, thus the first that comes to mind whenever something negative is mentioned.

nothing more to say I guess :

I continue to buy their products. I feel the need to speak up for them. :P If something we own is recalled (and nothing has been) then I'll address it-but I do believe they try to be conscientious-as much as is in their control to be.
