DS got a couple of Melissa and Doug toys a month or so ago. One of them was a set of wooden keys. As soon as we took them out of the package we noticed the paint was chipping from them. My parents got him the M&D snail, and the same thing happened. He barely plays with it and the paint is chipping.

Is it still safe to let him play with these toys? Are they okay to donate, or should we toss them? It's kinda sad, they're fairly new and hardly played with at all... Are M&D toys known to chip easily? Has anyone else had this problem?

We have a couple M&D puzzles and a toy train. None of them have chipping paint yet. I have read a few posts here that it does happen. I also read that someone just called, emailed, wrote (whatever the method of communication was) M&D and they sent them out a new one.

If it were me and the kids were still mouthing toys, I wouldn't let them play with it. That being said, on the website where a group of people test all kinds of toys for different toxins (I can't find the link or I would give it to you) they did test a M&D toy and it came out in the low category across the board.

The few that we had did chip very easily as well. I've heard this is an issue with their toys, they really are very cheap wooden toys.

There is no way to happiness, happiness is the way.

I despise M & D toys for this reason. Their quality seems to be shoddy from stem to stern.
