Hippy means having large hips. Hippies are natural-oriented folks from the 60's and 70's.

My Mom was a hippie. I'm crunchy.

I've always spelled it Hippy. Someone corrected me years ago, so I looked "Hippie" up in the Webster dictionary and found that "Hippy" is an acceptable variant of "Hippie."

I don't like words that end with ie. They look wrong to me. Words that end in "Y" usually end in "ies" for the plural.

I make exceptions for words like "cookie" which used to be spelled "cooky" but now looks "Kooky" for some reason.

Hippie. Hippy looks silly to me and just makes me think of someone with big hips.
