(This involves bugs for those who hate that sort of thing. Like me.)

Let me start off by saying that my couch is a hunk o' junk anyway. It is a horrible mauve and slate blue plaid monstrosity that was handed down from family when we bought our house. Over the last five years the kids have spilled everything known to man on it and the fabric has begun to fall apart from overuse. It's embarrassing and absolutely disgusting.

We have been talking about getting a new couch for ages. Dh always wants to put it off because he thinks it's not a necesary expense. ( : )

NO MORE.

I just laid the baby down on the sofa to change his diaper and this thing crawled OUT OF THE CUSHIONS and right by his head. And when I say out of the cushions I don't mean from between them - I mean from the inside.

I am going to IKEA to buy a new couch. I told Dh he has absolutely no choice in the matter, and that the horrid plaid bug house must be gone by tonight.

Ooooh those things definitely have made me jump a lot in the past...I would probably get another couch too...house centipedes eat other bugs so there may have been other bugs in the couch. Good luck finding a new one!

Ewww, we have those at our house too. *shudder* I'm pretty sure they're fairly harmless though.

I am green with envy that you can "go to Ikea". *sigh* Have fun shopping!

I thought it was kind of pretty. You know from a picture on the internet. Had it been by my baby's head, not so much.

Good luck couch shopping. I hope you find one you like.

Ewwww. I've seen a lot of those things lately. Not in real life- I'd have a heart attack!- but online.

That's kinda scary. I'd never be able to sit or sleep on that couch again.

We got lucky and found an almost brand new couch (with a rather large tear) for only $100 on Craigslist.

I think it's a house centipede.

The good news is that they eat cockroaches and flies and other pests.

Happy couch shopping though! Ikea rocks.

.
The bad news is that they set up house where they have a steady supply of food. Their kind of food.

Don't forget to post new couch pictures!

Hey does your Ikea have a clearance area. Ours is near the cash registers in our Ikea. Once I went to Ikea for a book shelf for dd's room, and in the clearance area they had the same shelf I wanted, but it was the larger version, but was only 1/3 of the price of the small shelf. YAY!

Anyhow I've seen couches for really cheap for stupid reasons, like a small dent in the side. Check it out.

Once I got over my initial freakout I realized that yes it is a house centipede and yes they eat other pests. It makes sense, my house is pretty old and therefore attracts all sorts of beasties with it's crumbling and draftyness.

But still. (creepy-crawly skin feeling smilie needed here)

I'm getting a new couch anyway. I'm using this as my excuse to finally get something new. (Because Dh wouldn't agree to buy a new one even if the one we have spontaneously combusted)

Nothing fancy or expensive - my kids will probably destroy it in a few years. So IKEA fits the bill perfectly! (And yes, the clearance room is my first stop. Last time I was there there was a couch marked 50% off.) I'm going tomorrow, so pictures then!
