Anything that ends with "s."

DP's last name ends in "s." That means

Ellis
Silas
Elias
Hollis

are all out due to a sing-songy effect.

Isabella has also been my favorite name for YEARS, but my SIL used it 4 years ago for my niece's middle name. I was upset at the time but it wouldn't matter now as it is too popular for my liking.

Kaiya (pronounced like Maya)- I'm still working on this one with DH. I don't remember where I first saw it but I have loved it forever.

Rhiannon- I think this is such a pretty name, but I am not Irish whatsoever and DH is Hispanic and he just thinks it's a weird name. Plus, it wouldn't go with our last name at all.

I love the name Benjamin Joseph for a boy but am not crazy about the initials- I can see a lot of problems once he hits middle school!

I really wanted to name our DD Mary Jane but give DH's "smokey" past it would have drawn to many giggels so we ended up with Millie Jane (Millicent Jane) which now I really love. I really wanted to name DS Ashley but so many people had negative things to say about it iruined it for me. However now he is totally an Elliot nad i could not imagine him named anything else. But as a result I will never share names with people ahead of time again!

I like:

Zoe
Olivia
Penelope

They are way too mainstream for me but I like them...so I named my animals after them

The cat is Zoe, the dog is Olivia, and the rabbit is PennyJenny. Oh I also liked Asia, we had a dog years ago we named this.

Rhiannon--dh says no.

Any name that starts with L or has a strong L sound in it: dh does want any comic book names.

Thisbe

Thisbe was the Juliet of Greek mythology. If ds had been a girl, he would've been "Thisbe". No more kids for me, so I won't get to use that name.

I really liked the names Alex and Joey for girls growing up (actually I really like most common boy names for girls, Randy, Ryan, etc). But I couldn't use them cause my Sister had a baby six months before I did and his name is Joey. Then my ex thought Alex would be weird cause his brother is named Alex.

So I settled on Bella, and then my SIL informed me that she was naming her future dd Isabella (she was born a month after my dd).

I also love love love the name Emily, but I had an Aunt Emily who was a really mean woman. I also love the name Kay, but it always makes me think of a girl I went to school with that was straight up evil.

While I was pregnant I stumbled upon some old printed note cards. You know those old cards that young woman might have to correspond with in the olden days. It said Miss Mattie Smith on them (My great grandmother who I always knew as Matilda Shaffer). I really liked that, so I named my dd Matalyn (Mattie) Skylar. I'm sure glad I stumbled upon those note cards.

I love Milo, but a very close friend named her son that while I was pregnant, so we chose not to use it. We were bummed though, because it's a family name and one we both loved.

I love Clementine for a girl, but my partner just can't wrap his head around it.

Molly, mama to my 3 sweet boys.

River...my last name is Wilde. A bit much. But that's okay. It's a bit on the trendy side anyway.

And because our son is Sage, I think all other nature-type names are pretty much out of the question. I don't want it to be a theme thing.

Dh has also vetoed Elliot. Bummer.

It doesn't bother me though, because I have a name for our next baby, boy or girl. I never thought I'd be one to name a baby before s/he's born (much less conceived), but it came to me a few months after ds was born, and I know on some deep spiritual level that this is our next baby's name. It's really a cool feeling. I'm not telling though.

My daughter's name is Rowan.... The first name on our list, actually, was Kathryn.
No kidding! DD is also called Rowan, and it was going to be Katherine for the first few months of our pregnancy. (Assuming she was a girl, obviously). I eventually decided Katherine was too common, but I may yet use it in the future... I do love the name and its nicknames.

Names I like, but have yet to convince DH are nice:
Hazel
Leslie (for a girl, it's my father's middle name)

Names we can never use:
Sophie/Sophia (too common)
Rosemary (I used to love it, but SIL and a REALLY obnoxious girl we know are called that, plus Rowan's middle name is Marie so I don't want too many Mary/Miriam/Maria derivatives, especially as we've already gotten some snide comments from the Catholic side of the family about using Marie, despite the fact that Rowan Marie is a fifth-generation Marie from a line of staunch Protestants, and can you tell it bugs me?).

If decomposition persists please see your necromancer.

I can't use Amelia, one of my all time favorite names, because DH hates it. He threatened to call her "Mealy worm" if I used it. :

I also really like Henry/Harry/Harrison but I can't use any of them because DH's last name is Harrington. Could you imagine a poor little kid called Harrison Harrington?

I also can't use Abigail because that's my dog's name. My best friend used it though, and I like to tease her about naming her child after my dog. Abigail is a very cool dog, and if any dog deserves a human namesake it's her.

Benjamin. It's a nice name, and we have discussed it with every pregnancy, but he would invariably wind up being called "Ben" and that just sounds really really bad with our last name.

I have a whole list of other names that I love but only won't be used because I'm done with babies. ::sigh::

I've always LOVED the name "Amaryllis," but I was sure that my family would think that I had lost my mind, so I never even considered it. I really, really like it though.

When I was actively playing with my Irish band, I was in love with the name Aoife Siobhan. But we had a boy, so that went that. Even though I still love the name, I probably wouldn't use it if we are ever able to have another child.

Now if by some miracle we are able to have another child and she's a she, I would love to name her Elsa Charlotte, after my grandmother and my aunt.

I also love the name Ciaran, but dp preferred to spell it Kieran. Since we couldn't agree, we abandoned that name.

Oh well, we have already named our second and final child Cedar, regardless of gender.

There are several we wouldn't use because family or friends or Angelina Jolie have already used them.

But on the "can't" page, we can't use any name that has the nickname Perry because that was DH's ex and he feels too weird about it. And I don't like the idea of using Solomon because our last name is a synonym for Intelligent. It just seems like too much of a joke even though it would be being named after my grandfather and not for the joke.

There are also lots of names I really like but won't use because culturally they have no meaning for us.

I won't use any of my cousin's names, though these ones would otherwise be at the top of my list.

For a girl: Eimear or Niamh. For a boy: Rory or Darragh.

Sigh.

I would love to name one of our future daughters Tyme or Hazel or one of our future sons Leif or Link, but alas, Dh shot those down (you think he would at least consider Link since he likes playing Zelda). But if we have 5 boys I get to name the fifth one River :

I wanted to name another future daughter Piper but Dh shot that down as well, so I named one of our kittens we got last year Piper

Bethany for a girl and Oliver for a boy but DH is opposed to both.

I also love Grace but it is way too popular for my taste.

Our first son would likely have been named Miles, if DH and I didn't both have M names already and found that just *too* cutesy.

Rosalind would have been DS2's name if he was a girl, but he wasn't, and he's our last kid.

Gabriel is one of DH's very favorite names, and I like it too... but too angelic. (We're both atheists.) At least for Raphael (DS2's name), we can say with a straight face that he's named after a Ninja Turtle.

William might have been DS1's first name, after my father, but our last name begins with a W. I lived the alliteration thing for the first 12 years of my life (before hyphenating my mom's maiden name onto the beginning of my surname), and would never, ever do that to my own child. (So it's his first middle name.)
