Ds and I just saw a children's hospital type commercial. There was a child with a cleft palate, a child with a major burn (I think) covering a large part of her neck and face, and a child who was walking with leg braces.
I got teary and said to ds that it was a sad commercial. He asked why, and I realized I have no idea what to say to that. I have no idea what to say in any related situation.
I'm sure it's not proper to say the children are disabled, right? What do I say?

I think I would say that those children are facing challenges that could make their lives a lot harder. Also experiencing a burn is extremely painful so I could see myself being sad for what that child had gone through already.

I would say something like, "The children shown in that commercial have been hurt in some way, and that makes me sad ... but they are in the hospital and the doctors will help them to feel better."

Thank you! That gives me some ideas of what to say in the future. I like the phrase "facing challenges".
