Who wants to find a nice big rock and go live under it? Or a cabin in the bush away from humanity?

I was at work tonight and the residents were watching the news while they ate (I feed one resident so couldn't leave) and I admit...I went into the bathroom to cry. Horrible horrible things going on in the world right now....and having my kids grow up in a place with horrible crimes like that just makes me ill.

I'll come with you. News hasn't been allowed in my home for years. The important stuff that I need to know trickles down without fail. No head in the sand here.

I want my babies to live in a happy shiny world....how can I change it for them?

Here's how out of it I am, I haven't heard the greyhound story. I live in a quiet place, not that stuff doesn't happen here. My kids can be kids though.

I do not watch the tv news, and rarely read the newspaper. : I love NPR, though. Regualar commercial news is sensationalist and very, very negative.

I'm not going to be much of a help here because I'm totally completely jaded, but the crap going on in the world isn't anything new. It's been going on since the beginning of humanity. We just didn't have it blasted into our living rooms daily.

I get a sick acid stomach feeling everytime I peek into the MDC News and Current Events forum. My coworker DAILY talks about some child that had some HORRIBLE thing happen to him/herself...I usually tell her to stop, I can't handle it.

I'll come to the cabin. Is it like the Coors cabin but instead of beer there is lots of granola?

I'll come too. This is partly why I do not watch tv news anymore and selectively read the news. People are really horrible.

I stopped consistently watching about 4 years ago. I just hated going to bed after the news and hated waking up to bad news in the paper.

I'll come.

I stopped watching local TV news after taking a class called "Sociology of Mass Communication" and learning how news "creates" crime waves. : (It doesn't actually cause the crime.... just that a certain kind of crime becomes "trendy" so it suddenly gets reported all the time, even though the rate hasn't changed at all.)

I stopped watching national/international TV news after reading about how CNN caused the Gennifer Flowers thing to blast out of control while the networks were trying to ignore it.

I stopped reading news online (regularly, anyway) when I realized it was just damaging my mental health.

I hear about the important stuff here, or from my DH or my mom. I'm aware that stuff is happening, but I just get too worked up about it and have to tune it out.

I'll come too! We don't have cable here so our home isn't invaded with constant reports of crime and we don't get the newspaper either. I rarely read the news online. I love being blissfully ignorant

I'm all for buying my own private island. Or the cabin idea sounds nice.

I have to be depressed to start thinking about rocks and caves, although I'm almost to that point already and it has nothing to do with the news.

My kids had just finished watching a show (recorded tv, end the program and the regular channel comes on) when the local news came on (which we never watch, not even for weather) with a blurb about some woman who was finally on trial because she ***SENSITIVE***
Warning :: Spoiler Ahead! Highlight to read message!
killed her children and buried them under her house a couple years ago. They were found a few mos later by a neighbor seeking to find the source of the odor.
BOTH of my older kids were still in the room and I was in the kitchen. I could not turn it off fast enough. They don't need to know that horrible abuses like that happen. I do what I can to protect them from that, at least for now.

I'll come too! We don't watch cable news at all, even though we have access to it. The only reason we even have cable is because my DP needs the cable internet access for his web design jobs and the bundle package was cheaper than the DSL from the phone company.

I don't know what the greyhound story is and I don't think I'd like to know. The world is scary and sad.....and full of good people and beautiful things, they just don't get the media coverage.

A cabin in the Canadian woods sounds nice.

I had a nightmare the other night after reading a story in N&CE. :
