Thanks everyone for the tips on how to decline the tests at the Dr. office. This is my first pg and I have been doing a ton of research... I do not want to decline all tests for the sake of declining, but I decided not to do any ultrasounds, and am still thinking about other tests, sine it is still early. But yesterday when I went to the Dr. office all ready to decline a US, I caved! Usually I am a very strong assertive woman, but I turn into a child once the 'Big Man Dr.' tells me wht to do. I cried all the way home, disappointed in myself for caving. I realize that from now on, I have to be the advocate for this little person, so I hope I can be stronger in the future.

I think that once I start to see my MW next week, I will be more confident. Because of my stupid insurance, I have to pretend that I am not seeing a MW and go to all my Dr. appts or else he might refuse to treat me if I come in for an emergency. It all makes me so angry how the health care system treats pg mothers!

Anyway, thanks for letting me vent. It helps a lot to hear that other women are also refusing some or all tests.

That sounds like a stressful situation. Don't beat yourself up. My first pregnancy and the first few years of my daughter's life taught me how to be a fearless advocate for our family's health but I had to make mistakes along the way to find my voice and confidence. I don't refuse for the sake of refusing, but I simply try to follow evidenced-based medicine. When I show no risks, I don't see a need for anything invasive unless there develops  a medical need. If your midwife sees something she wants to check out, I would listen, but your doc will just be following procedure. It is great to be under the care of someone who sees all pregnancies as default normal unless something arises verses someone trained to identify any pathology in pregnancy.

We won't be getting an ultrasound or doing any genetic testing.  We do the blood work, but I think I only did that 1 or 2 times with my last pregnancy.  We also will not be doing the glucose testing.
