I was wondering if any of you other mamas have experience with taking Zofran to combat morning sickness?

I am currently taking Unisom/B6 coctail and it is helping somewhat but I am still extremely nauseus all day long (esp. at night).  Contemplating talking to my OB about starting Zofran.  What do you all think?

I've never taken it, but am doing much better w/the B6.  I have heard very good things about it, though.  I say it can't hurt to try, especially if you're still so miserable.  Hang in there!

Phenergan is my drug of choice for nausea. I also found peppermint candies, made with real oil of peppermint, to be helpful. Good luck!

Currently on Zofran due to hyperemesis - it is a lifesaver!  Make sure if you start it to keep up on fluid intake - constipation is a side effect.  It really helps immensely though - I am not totally nausea-free, but food stays where it's supposed to (knock on wood), and I finally stopped losing weight!

How funny I should see this thread. I am due aug 18th and so far, my morning sickness wasn't so bad. I found taking otc nausea meds have helped. However, last night I ended up in the hospital because my morning sickness has officially taken a turn for the worse. I couldn't eat all day long, I was gagging every few seconds but nothing was coming up. The OTC meds weren't working. I took phenergen which was a life saver for the beginning of pregnancy with my daughter. No luck. It helped for 15 minutes and the nausea came back. That also started happening with my daughter and I had to be on the b6/ unisom combo with the phenergen. However, the b6 wasn't working very well either. The dr thinks I might have the beginnings of hyperemesis. He gave me zofran and it worked better than everything else but I still had two slight nausea attacks. Zofran is really good but just be prepared if you're on medicaid cause it's very expensive and they will only pay for 8pills a month. That's the problem I'm having right now but since it's the only thing that's working, my dr is going to request a special needs waiver for it so that I can have some medicine that helps me be able to eat. Good luck smile.gif

I'm on Zofran, and it has been a life saver for me. Since about week 6 I was puking up everything and losing weight, and was couch bound all day long (luckily I only work a few evenings a week so I could do that). I went on Zofran a few weeks ago and am now able to keep down food and fluids again! The nausea isn't completely gone and neither is the vomiting but I did get some relief. Unfortunately it does cause constipation which I am still trying to figure out how to remedy. In my opinion the relief from the nausea is totally worth it.
