Jude Nicholas was born August 12 at 4:40 pm 8lbs 11oz 21 inches long!
Sorry it has taken me so long to get on here. I have been super tired and busy as I am sure you all know. But I have been dying to share my birth story and pics with you ladies.
As some of you know I thought I started losing my mucus plug Wednesday night and then at like 4 thursday morning I started having my bloody show and ctx started almost immediately. The ctx were irregular most of the morning on thursday and started become stronger, longer, and closer together by the afternoon/evening. For some reason I was just not convinced I was in labor though. I did my hypnobabies all day and tried to nap as much as possible in case it was the real deal.
Around 9 I was having pretty reguarlar ctx and had continued having bloody show all day but at this point I was bleeding quite a bit heavier. So I put a call into my dr and she wanted me to come in just to make sure all was well. I was not happy about driving the hour to the hospital because I didn't feel like I was ready to go yet.
We got there around 10 and waited forever because they were quite busy. I did have several ctx while waiting but they seemed to slow down a little. The nurse came in to check me and I could not believe it when she said I was at 9cm with a bulging bag! I was so excited. They took me to a room and immediately started filling up the birthing tub. My dr showed up and when she checked me my water broke. This is where things unfortunatley started heading south.
Once my water broke my cervix went back to 7 and she informed us that baby was abnormally high. She said I could just labor and hopefully he would decend. She was already worried about shoulder dystocia since she thought he was so big and she said this made her nervous that he was floating so high. That maybe he was in an awkward position. So I labored for 3-4 hours but my ctx were becoming irregular again. When she checked me I was still at 7 and no change of babies position. She told me that my options were c-section or try pitocin and see if it would bring him down. She informed however that she believed there was a 95% chance of me having to have a section. I was devastated and was so mad. I lost my midwives on Monday and kept thinking maybe things would be different if they were delivering me.
I was exhausted and frustrated and was really considering just getting the section right then but hubby talked me into trying the pitocin. He said I would regret it if I didn't try everything. So I did and my contractions became unbearable. I labored on pitocin for 4 hours when I finally asked to be checked hoping I had made some progress. He was still completely floating and I was still at 7.
At this point the dr said our vitals were good and I could continue as long as I wanted to but she really didn't think he was going to decend. I decided to get an epidural because I was so exhausted, emotionally and physically and felt we were gonna end up with a section anyways so I might as well go ahead and get pain relief.
They gave me the epidural and it didn't work. I couldn't believe it! I had to lay there through non-stop ctx because your not suppose to sit up once the epidural is placed. So they had to take out the first one and try again. The second one worked and I got 3 hours of sleep. They came in to check me and I was at 9 but she said baby was at -4. She said I could try to push and see what happened but that she has never had anyone push a baby down from that point.
So I started pushing and he immediately began descending. I pushed for three hours but I finally got my little guy out!! Everyone was truly shocked because they all thought I was getting a section.
I wonder if things would have been different if I wouldn't have lost my midwives but I do appreciate the dr allowing me to try for as long as I wanted. I truly don't believe many Ob's would have let that go on for 18 hours. I ended up having to have pitocin and eventually caving for the epidural but I avoided the c section which I consider a success. All together it was a long hard labor but I had my baby vaginally and I couldn't be happier!
He is awesome at breast feeding even though we had some cracked nipples in the beginning all is healing and we are doing better. I just love him so much and I am so glad he is finally here!!
