My DD was super fussy as a newborn and so this seems so weird to me but my DS sleeps ALL day and night. He will wake to nurse then just go right back to sleep. He does have alert times but they are few and far in between. He is 8 days old today. Tell me it's normal :D

Magnolia does the same things. She's 15 days old now and does have more alert (occasionally fussy) times now than she did a week ago, but its still not much and changes from day to day. Her latest pattern is sleep most of the day one day except for maybe an hour or two, then the next day she'll usually be up for 4 hrs in a row and spend the rest of the day sleeping, then sleep all day the next day, and so on.

My guy is similar. Although now he is having more awake time, and I feel like he doesn't know what to do about it.  He just gets so upset if he isn't nursing or sleeping.

He is either asleep or eating and falling asleep ;) It's normal. That's how they build their little brains :)

My dd is already 26 days old and she still sleeps all the time.  She has about 3 alert times a day...all lasting a whole hour each.  And then the rest of the time she sleeps.  I keep waiting for her to wake up!  My other kids were so alert and busy from birth.  This sleeping newborn thing is so strange to me lol.

My DD did this for the first couple weeks. It actually made me really nervous - I was like, aren't you supposed to wake up and eat every hour or 2?? But she seemed just fine and gained weight quickly so I relaxed. Now she is awake for an hour or 2 at a time, very alert and wants to be carried around and see everything, and then she gets fussy and tired and we have to get her back to sleep (gone are the days of her just falling asleep when she is tired, sigh). At night though she barely wakes up to eat every 2 or 3 hours. She's like half asleep and nurses through the first let down, and then spits out my nipple, which then creates a puddle beside her head :P And my boobs are pretty sore and full by morning.

I think our DD started to really be more alert around two weeks. I think a sleepy newborn is normal for some babies. At some point she, too, started needing more help falling asleep when tired.
