So my midwife called this morning to talk about the ultrasound i had a week ago. She didn't get it til now, because the video was being shown to every radiologist in town. The ultrasound showed one very healthy baby, due August 28th, AND there is something else in my uterus, & it's moving. Noone can give me any answers, noone will say what it is. Thursday (asap) I'm being sent to a neonatologist specialist, who is said to be very home-birth friendly. I totally i have no idea what to think. Among the possibilities are: another baby, partially re-absorbed twin, or a rare tumor. Anyone ever have anything similar happen to them?

Fingers crossed for a quick answer... maybe you're having twins and they just didn't get a good shot?

Whoa, that's crazy! I'm guessing (and hoping) a bad picture of a twin too.  I've had a tumor before and it definitely didn't move at all! Good luck today!!!

If it is moving, I would think another baby. But, I would also think if it were twins, they would have just told you and not made a huge issue of it.

I would also think something along the lines of a twin.  Tumors don't move. . .

Good luck.  Thinking of you and anticipating your update!

UPDATE:

There is only one, healthy & vigorous baby. The "abnormality" that the small-town ultrasound technicians & radiologists saw is actually nothing more than a tiny pocket of blood on my placenta (blood, placenta, thus it appears to be moving). It's essentially like a blood blister. It will dissolve on it's own & is absolutely no cause for concern. I am very thankful for everyone's support & that the baby is healthy. However, I am more than a little frustrated that they portrayed a serious, even life threatening condition to my midwife, when in fact they really just had no clue what they were seeing. Thanks for all the good thoughts, mammas!

I got a call yesterday from my doctor saying that the from my ultrasound the radiologist detected that the baby had what looked like a "flattened head".  So, as you can imagine, this is not news I really want to hear.  Hopefully baby is just fine, and it was a strange shot or image the tech got with the angle of the baby.  I am waiting to have a detailed ultrasound scheduled.

Fingers crossed that we also get good news like Mohawk Mamma.

Wish you the best...what exactly did your doctor say that could mean? Or maybe it could just be read WRONG?

The doctor said it was a "soft sign" which means they want a detailed ultrasound to see every thing.  I spoke with a genetic counsellor, and she said that radiologists ask for detailed ultrasounds if they notice anything they cannot really see.

Of course I am nervous, but my husband and I are only hoping for the best.

Casita I had "soft signs" and they told me it was Down's.  I learned after that often the ultrasound technology is so far ahead of the radiologists that they don't always read them properly, especially if they're not an MFM radiologist.  Don't stress out, chances are it's absolutely nothing, but don't let them worry you until you've had that second ultrasound and a second opinion.

(((hugs))) to everyone in the 'waiting boat'.

We had a similar experience with dd2's pregnancy... we found out right before the winter holidays that "there could be a problem" and then had to wait till after the new year to get a level II u/s with a specialist.  It turned out that everything was fine, and we went on to have a healthy baby, but it was a stressful couple of weeks.  And then this time round we knew there was a very high risk of birth defects so we were playing the waiting game again (babe looks ok but we'll have a level II u/s during the 2nd trimester to be sure).  It's no fun, but I agree with pp... trying to stay relaxed and not imagine the worst is important.  Don't beat yourself up for stressing, but do try to schedule some sort of fun/relaxing moments for yourself.

(((hugs)))
