Well, she finally decided to arrive at 41w3d (give or take a few)! What a relief. After a stressful "postdates" u/s and NST at midday, I came home continuing to have very gentle contractions. Started timing them at about 6:30 p.m. for fun and was surprised to see them 5 minutes apart, so I called my midwife at about 7:30. She arrived at about 10:50 p.m., figuring I was way too chatty for someone in active labor. I thought I was, too, and was scared at how hard this was going to get.
Well, what did I know? Magdalen was here, after about 50 minutes of self-guided pushing that started just after my water broke, at 12:36 a.m. this morning, September 16. She weighed 7 lbs 11 oz and was 20 inches long.
Placenta looked great (no aging, etc.) and she was a touch peely with loonng fingernails and very little vernix, but that's it. There was some meconium in the water, but it was light and not sludgy, so we didn't transport. No aspiration issues. Yay! Her little eyelids got bruised because it took three pushes to get her head out and she stopped right there for a couple of minutes, I think. I ended up with a skid mark and maybe four stitches.
She was gracious enough to wait to poop and pee EVERYWHERE until immediately after coming out (you can see the evidence in the pic below).
More details and a coherent birth story to come!
So glad she's here, and all went well after the worry you had. She is gorgeous, congrats!
