Last night and today i've been having really strange cramping on one side only. It's more intense than a period cramp-but i can't really put my finger on exactly "where" it hurts. It feels like the discomfort of a pap on my cervix, (if that makes any sense) but the majority of the cramping is around what feels like the left side. I've been looking at the symptoms of an ectopic and the only ones I have are the cramping. (no fever, shoulder pain, spotting/bleeding etc.)

I did page my midwife, who will call me with an ultra sound appointment in the morning. I haven't had one yet, so hopefully everything will be ok. I don't know if it's too soon to hear a heart beat or not...(I'm 7wks and 4 days.)

Has anyone else had cramping on only one side before during pregnancy?

I'm hoping it's something like this!

Maybe i'm paranoid...I just feel like I'm better safe than sorry and need to get it checked out. I was just reading that having a D&C increases your chances of ectopic pregancy. I did have one after a miscarriage last summer. I didn't know that it could increase the risk of ectopic...I wish someone would have told me that.

I'll be thinking of you in the morning. Please keep us updated.

I had an ultrasound at 7w1d and clearly saw the heart beating, though if your dates are even a little off then it's possible to not see the heart beating but have everything be fine.

I suspect it's ligament pain. Several ligaments attach to your cervix.
Getting an ultrasound is the appropriate action.
You will see a heartbeat at 7 weeks.

A d and c will only affect ectopics if done improperly. Without complications, you'll be fine. No increased risk over baseline.

Thank you guys so much, I already feel reassured. Isn't it strange how encouraging it can be to recieve a virtual hug from people you don't even know personally? what would I do without you guys? I think my husband is going nuts with my worrying.

Ultrasound is in an hour:)

All is well! Located exactly where the bean should be, (not in the tube!) and measuring right on, with a heartbeat:)

Ooh, what a relief.  So happy for you!  That is one of the "drawbacks" of being really in tune to your body- every little twinge can make us a little nervous.  I have been experiencing all kinds of bloating and stomach cramps, and twinges on my sides (ligaments).  During pregnancy, all of or systems slow down, including our digestive system.  You know how sometimes really bad indigestion/abdominal cramps can feel very similar to menstrual cramps?  I feel like my whole abdominal region is burbling and gurgling and making funny noises and feelings all the time.

Still, you know those other people who manage to go an entire pregnancy without knowing they were pregnant?  To me, that sounds like torture to be so disconnected to my body that I wasn't aware.

Anyway, really happy for you!

Amy, feathering our nest with sweet husband O and baby girl, P (October 2011).

"If it cramps when you sneeze, it's probably a ligament" :)

I had this too, was thinking maybe it was the cyst from which the egg came. But when I had my early U/S, the tech said the cyst was on the other ovary, and that the side with the cramping looked just fine. A couple of weeks later, the twinges are gone (except when I sneeze or shift my posture funny). Stuff is growing down there!

I got my first positive test on 02/26/11, and within the last few weeks I've had little twinges and almost cramps on my left side as well. Its nice to know that it could just be a ligament. This is my first pregnancy so I just kept thinking it was an ectopic. I have my first appointment on March 17th and the anticipation is killing me! Glad everything turned out well for you! smile.gif
