Not to be judgemental of what other people should do, but it is my opinion that we should all cross body parts off of our lists of potential baby names.  True story:  A woman wanted to name her daughter Vagina, because she had heard the word during her birth and thought it was so pretty!  Medical records refused to allow it.

Also, I have a friend who jokingly wants to name her kids Penis (pronounced very French, Pen-ees) and Vagina (prouounced Va-hee-na)

And then, look at this gorgeous and amazing woman -- Ima Hogg -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ima_Hogg

Tell me how it would be to be shackled with THAT moniker all your life!  Texas legends say that Ima had a sister named Ura, but it turns out that, fortunately, that was untrue.

Hehe... I once had a little boy in my class named Colby Bacon. Can't remember if that was a middle name or last name, but made me think of a sandwich every time.

I spent my first two weeks of pregnancy convincing my husband and his friends that we were not going to name our son Bacon, nor were we going to name our daughter Brook Trout.

Well I know someone who named his kids Amber and Porter... because he really liked beer. Not such bad names by themselves but when you have both of them together its just too much!

I was pulling for Donovan and Killian for awhile; daddy-to-be nixed those because the inspiration came from beer :lol.gif

Hedgikiah, Hedge for short is a long family joke name for in-utero babies.

Also, Huckleberry.  My baby is nobody's huckleberry.

When my grandmother was a child, she knew what she wanted to name her children - Amaryllis for her first girl, and Torso for her first boy.  She liked the sounds of them.  Fortunately, by the time she actually HAD children she decided that Barbara and Ed were more appropriate.

On a farm with our kiddo (nearly 2), two dogs, two cats, ten goats, two donkeys, nine sheep, a bunch of chickens, and a husband (in the winters). We have another on the way!

Torso makes me think of, well, a torso (as in the central part of one's body.)

I agree with Amy May. Body parts should be off limits as names!

(To give your grandmother credit, Hykue, when I was a child, I planned to have 24 children and name them alphabetically.)

~pi - me too! LOL thank goodness I got over that!

I also think naming your children after fruit is sort of odd . . .

Granted, I know plenty of people named after seasons and months, that would not be my first choice. (or second, or third . . .)

I agree about body parts!

There is one set of twins in my family that we know of, many many generations ago.  They were Amy and Maimee.  Thankfully I was named after Amy.

Since our last name is May (and my own name is now an anagram- Amy May) we have to be careful to not go too cutsey.  Mya or Yam are off limits.  So are months (June May, April May etc) and rhymes (Ray May, Kay May, Faye May etc).

Bacon- I guess you can only pull that off if you're Kevin Bacon.

The beers are really funny.  I can see some going better than others- Sam Adams would work.  Blue Moon?  Guiness?  Sheesh!

I heard of one sports-freak father who named his kid Espn (pronounced like Aspen, but with an E, after, wait for it... ESPN).

I have a friend that is a huge redskins fan, and her hubby likes the cowboys. They bet the rights to name their kid on the outcome of the game, and as a result, her husband got to name their kid.... And he named him Dallas.

For our first, my partner and I initially liked the idea of using gender-neutral names.  I suggested Sasha and Lee.  My partner suggested Berlin or Amsterdam.

We decided to name our son Henry.  :)

My DS1's name is Jameson and we get lots of jokes since my husband is a bartender at an Irish Pub. Many of his regulars suggested we name our second Bailey so we could have our own little Irish Car Bomb shot. :)

My husband wanted to name our DS2 Rork. It a) sounds awful and b) sounds worse with our last name. I suggested he name a pet turtle that and he got VERY offended... oops! (Still didnt change my opinion, even though I felt bad.)
