Confession... I wait impatiently for someone else to post this thread every week because I was too lazy to figure out the dates each time.

Ok, now down to business:

1) Did we ever pick our "leaders" for the new forum/board/club thing?

2) Thrasher has the hiccups ALL THE TIME. Ok, maybe twice a day, but they last for so long I feel terrible for him. How do you scare the hiccups out of a fetus? lol

3) I am alternating between "Holy ****, how am I 34 weeks already?!?!" and "Holy ****, how do I still have 3-8 weeks left of this?!?!"

4) We are totally moved in, and I've been cleaning out our apartment so another pregnant girl can move in! She's due two days after me and allergic to cats, so I feel awful for her and am trying to clean as best as I can! I think I'll have to rent a shampooer.

5) Baby's Storage Room is set up (I'm not kidding myself by calling it a nursery) and I think I want to start a thread where we show pics of baby rooms. I know a bunch of you put a lot more work into your rooms than I did - I think it would be neat to see the different ideas.

Have had an unsettling morning...now that we've all survived the Great Hurricane Irene.

Looked like I was losing some bits of my mucus plug this morning, which freaked me out.  Had a prenatal appt. scheduled anyway, so went in and the following things happen:

  • Had a ton of glucose in my urine, which never happens.  I'm always 0.  Didn't eat anything different that I usually do last night or this morning.  Did really well on GTT screening two weeks ago, too.  (Midwife said we'd keep an eye, but felt like it was just a fluke).

  • Had blood pressure taken and midwife said the numbers seemed really far apart and I should make sure to drink a lot more and take in some more salt.

  • She tried to take blood for my anemia check and couldn't get any blood to come out (she tried twice).  This has also never happened to me before.  I guess there's a chance she's really bad at taking blood, but she seemed very certain that she was at the vein.  She thought this might be because of the blood pressure issue.

Fortunately, she was not at all worried about the mucus plug issue since I'm not having any other prelabor symptoms.  We decided to chalk it all up to stress (the build-up to Hurricane Irene, DH being away, and all that).  So, trying to be a calm, cool, collected, hydrated, salted mama.

not_telling- glad your care provider isn't concerned. Sounds nerve wracking though.

Karli- glad you are getting moved in. I totally get the baby storage room. If we had a place that is what ours would be. we won't be doing a nursery for the baby, she will sleep with us until about a yr then we will move her in with her sister and move ds3 in the room with his brothers.

I feel the same way about wow not quite 8 wks and WOW NOT QUITE 8 WKS!!!

So today I actually went to my storage unit and brought over most of the baby items. I haven't done anything with it but they are here. Also have my birth supplies so I can go through them and make sure I have what I need. Dh wants to blow up the tub to make sure it doesn't have a leak.

I wanted to past the below from last wks chat thread as it was the last post I think it got over looked:

So evidently I am now officially HUGE! I went to a church meeting last night. First was greeted by whoa what have you been eating in the last week you have really popped out... Um thanks then a few moments later a women said I didn't know you were having twings.... Um not that I know of. Then as I was leaving a lady asked "any day now" .I said " 8wks left"... she said "oh there is no way you will make it that long.

So I feel really huge but that just confirmed it for me.

Then I had my mw appt today where she said, I haven't ever seen you this big even at full term. So if my mw thinks I am huge, I must be huge.

She measured me and I am measuring 36wks (I am 32) and this is the first time I have measured ahead. The baby sounded great and everything looked great but she did say that the baby wasn't all that big but I had a lot of extra fluid in there. She told me it wasn't a concern but of course I don't believe her bcs I am a nervous wreck about this pg... so what did I do. I googled it. That was stupid. Now I am freaking out. Dh and I agreed to wait 2 wks till my next appt. and if I am still measuring big w/ lots of fluid to do an u/s.  Why can't this be easy?

Hope everyone is doing well.

No. My thoughts are that we want a few people who are:

1) reasonably regular about checking MDC (but obviously may be away from time to time)

2) inclusive but also

3) reasonably clued in and can tell the difference between new people and trolls and

4) willing to do it.

If they are willing, I think Steph (StephandOwen), capretta and Amy May would all do a great job.

AKislandgirl: I'm pretty sure they are talking about the MDC conversion from moderated forums to "social groups".

~pi: I'm flattered and would be willing to do it, if no one else steps forward, but I'm not exactly the most active poster around here.

And since I'm actually posting now...

AKChix0r: We have a baby storage room too! It is painted and now has a dresser and I even put up a wall decal over the weekend, but it's still storing the boxes that haven't been unpacked since our move in June and for at least the next 6 months or so, the sprog's room is going to be where we put our visitors (the sprog will sleep with us), so I'm not terribly concerned about setting it up as a proper nursery.

I third pi's suggestions!

Capretta: My storage room is actually nursery-ish, but we were given more hand-me-down gear and clothes than I have room for! It's overflowing with jumpers, rockers, exersaucers, swings, etc. I think my husband is scared.

Forgot to mention my big scare this weekend... I way overdid it last week. Here I was all mad and bent out of shape at people for trying to restrict what I was doing, and then it all caught up with me and almost hurt me and the baby. After two straight days of working full time then moving all night, I worked a half day on Friday so I could leave early to be in a commercial for a non-profit I'm heavily involved with. No one told me I'd be standing on a raised platform under hot lights, unable to move for 1.5 hours. I started to black out but sat down just in time. It almost happened again and they escorted me off set. Totally embarrassing (and scary). Luckily, they wrapped like TWO minutes after I went down. Had I just made it five minutes longer....

(AKChix, thanks for starting the thread!)

Nothing much happening here. Found out that what I thought were mosquito bites is actually poison ivy. I have a patches of it along my belly where it sticks out the most. Nice.

Slowly getting the nursery corner together. No separate room for this baby. We're just squashing her in with us in our 1-bedroom. We had to turn the bed sideways and covering the walk-in closet door in order to fit her co-sleeper and other things. I got a cubeical bookcase type thing from target and fabric baskets to hold her stuff. So far, I think it is working and will look nice even.

I returned a bag of baby clothes and miscellaneous items to target and received $70 back on a gift card. I still have 3 more bags of mostly clothes that I received at the baby shower to try to return. Since I have 4 boxes of clothes picked up from family, friends, garage sales, and donations already, I'm trying to exchange the excess clothes for other stuff we need more.

Speaking of which, the local natural parenting store had their sidewalk sale this weekend and I was able to pick up a nursing tank, nursing bra, Moby wrap, and belly band for 1/2 off. I'm using the belly band to support the belly now that it's gotten so round and heavy.

I think I'll go a few more weeks at work and then stop. Anyone else know when they'll start their leave?

I'm just back from a week of camping! It was wonderful. It was kind of luxury camping, in a pop-up trailer and I had my own bed. Lots of riding in our little boat on the lake, DS fishing and nice campfire chats with DH, where we actually discussed the baby's possible naming.

I hear you, theboysmama, about being suddenly huge. Most people are telling me that I am looking ready to go also. Fortunately, they counter that statement with, "but you're not big anywhere else." So I don't need to haul off and whop anyone.

I had a baby storage room with DS, but now it is his bedroom. So this baby has an actual dresser and some storage under DS's bed.

On the subjects of social groups ... isn't it an option?  Not a requirement?  I don't feel like we've got any trollish folks hanging around.  I'm happy to keep things as is.

Karli ... Awesome that you're moved!  Congratulations!

not_telling ... All of those things would be upsetting to me, along with the hurricane.  Do you have any Rescue Remedy?  That might helped calm the waters, so to speak.

AFM:  Sorted and weeded out the hand-me-downs!  And I moved dd's things into the two bottom drawers of the dresser so that she can pick her clothes herself, and (way more importantly) so that I can put the baby's things in the top two drawers.  I refuse to have more than two drawers of clothes per kid, so what with the onslaught of hand-me-downs, I'll be doing a lot more weeding and shuffling of things.  And I took a bunch of shirts with butt flaps to my sister's so she can covert them into just t's, because the butt flaps don't fit over big cloth diapered baby bums.  And took some of dd's clothes (okay, LOTS) next door for the baby girl there.

Starling - last week, at the top of the DDC page, there was a notice saying no new threads could be started here after Aug 31. I'm assuming we have to switch by then.

theboysmama, DON'T GOOGLE! You and baby are going to be fine. If your midwife were concerned she'd have said, plus I have measured 4 weeks ahead for my entire pregnancy, except for the week I had pneumonia. wink1.gif

Karli, I swear this baby has hiccups about 1 time per hour, at least! They say it doesn't bother them as much as it does us and apparently it is a sign of maturation, which is great!

glad you are okay not_telling!

AFM, just trying to keep the SPD (aka: pubic pain) down to a minimum. Keeping workouts light and trying to avoid compromising positions. Also working on making more time for doing mental imagery and other birth preparations. I got the baby's swing today. Had a ton of fun putting it together. orngbiggrin.gif I got the I luv u zoo style one.

I think the thing is that it gives us a space to post that is easy to keep track of our DDC peeps after they close down our DDC.  I.e. instead of posting an "October '11 Babies!"  thread in babies, then toddlers, etc, which gets lost in the shuffle, we would have a place of our own to keep updated, etc.

I noticed the same thing, then I thought it was really wierd  and went back and read it again - the notice I saw was announcing a psychic question and answer thread was closing down and no new threads could be started after Aug 31st.  I totally glanced over it thinking it was relating to our DDC, maybe you saw the same thing?  It seems really strange that they wouldn't let our DDC's go to our DD months at least, doesn't it?

Going to see what I can find...

Karli- it was my that current threads would stay the same but if we converted to a group we could stay open indefinitely as opposed to closing 3 months after the birt.

I won't google I won't google. I won't google I won't google thanks tutu.

I was bad and bought a bag of Gardetto's out of the vending machine at work, and it got stuck, so I bought another and they both came and since I have no will power I am now eating the second bag. redface.gif

This weekend I washed and sorted the baby clothes from DS which we will start with since we do not know the sex, made room in the dresser for them by shuffling around DS's clothes, and made two more ( 4 total) freezer meals, and gathered and organized the majority of my birth supplies.

I finished the first was on all three dozen diapers this weekend. I'm still trying to figure out how we're going to manage cloth without a washing machine (our local laundromat is too expensive to go every 3 days plus the washers are for 15 pound + loads), but the new drying rack I got is great!

drying rack

I tried using the 1880s wooden mangle i bought on eBay to wring them out but a) it's a bit unwieldy with no frame or anything to hold it, and b) really needs a good cleaning! (that diaper had to be rewashed.)

I tried making some freezer food this weekend too, but it looks like it's ending up this week's dinner. Fortunately we have A LOT of beans and grains in the house and usually some sort of tinned tomatoes and froze veg so we can always resort to throwing random things in the crockpot for a while after the birth.

I don't believe DDCs are closing as of Aug 31, but they will close eventually (if memory serves, usually about 3 months after the birth month or something like that?), whereas a social group can stay indefinitely. I am pro creating a social group for this reason alone.

ETA: In other words, no rush, but if we want to move to a social group, we will need a few leaders. Hence the discussion.

From the Social Groups announcement http://www.mothering.com/community/t/1327212/social-groups-are-here

"Going forward, all Due Date Clubs (DDCs) will be created as a Group and they will remain active rather than archived. DDCs that are now closed and archived may be apply for a Group creation. "

So I think this DDC will stay open after August 31st until whenever they normally close them, but they won't be starting a May DDC for people who get pregnant in September.  I think pi's suggestions for leaders are good -- if they are willing :)

Teruterubozu, cloth and NO washer????? I can manage with no dryer but how on earth do you wash with no washer? I love your drying rack!

Also got my mobile in the mail. Tiny Love Sweet Island Dreams. Well the motor is making a loud noise so I had to email their customer service to request a replacement part. Apparently others have had this problem and had to do the same. The mobile is beautiful though, once it gets the new part I think I'll be very happy!

We're looking at various solutions for dirty diapers. Right now I'm just washing in the sink to get them absorbent but I think washtub and plunger may end up being what we use. It's not as much my concern though as cloth was decided by the Minister of Output (Spouse.) As Minister of Input I get all say on pumps, milk storage, etc.

Wow.  I admire your tenacity!  We have the same problem with no washer and only paid laundry (unless I go to MIL's house and use their machine, but it's a top-loader HE that seems to not like to get things very clean anyway), and so I just threw in the towel and decided not to cloth diaper this time around, and will revisit it if we move to a better situation while baby is still diapered.  Anyway, I wondered if you had ever heard of the Wonder Wash?  It's a little hand-cranked washer that I've heard some people use in situations like ours.

Regarding the social group thing... I really have no idea what to expect, but I'm for moving forward with it, as well.  I love the suggestions for leaders already put forward.  :)

Hiccups:  All my babies have gotten them, usually what seems like at least 5 times a day, by this point in pregnancy.  I've also heard that it's not really bothersome to them (something about not having air-filled lungs yet, I think).  But as it feels generally like a persistent muscle twitch to me, I've honestly never enjoyed the sensation and wish they'd get less hiccups just for that reason.  ;)

Baby room:  There is none, lol.  We've got 2 bedrooms, and my 3 olders are already sharing and have toy storage in the same room, and so baby certainly won't go in there.  We will set up our co-sleeper in our room (which is the smaller of the 2 rooms), but not until last-minute, because I like having floor space for now.  ;)  I also got a lovely Sterlite plastic dresser to set on top of my own dresser.  It's so gorgeous and nursery like, I may just never move it!  (*snort*)  But anyway, we're ready to be functional, at this point.  Well, I think so.  I haven't 100% decided where to put things like diapers and wipes, but we'll figure it out, I'm sure.  Oh, and speaking of the co-sleepeer, I got another of my to-do list items done today!  Pulled it out and scrubbed it down and let it sun dry.  Looks practically new again!  It was nasty and stank when I pulled it out... too many kids with dirty hands touching it before I put it away last time, I guess.  ;)  But, in doing my to-do-list item, I added another to the list:  Make my own sheets.  I only have one to go with it, and it's not in the best of shape.  Even one extra with the flannel I have on hand would be plenty.  That darn list never shrinks.

AFM:  Today was a good day.  Much cooler than other days we've had lately, got my co-sleeper washed, had a relatively relaxing day with DH home from work, made my own baby shower invitations (MIL and SIL aren't the best at that sort of thing, and knew I'd be willing to help, but it's still funny to me, lol), finally saw Harry Potter with DH (at $5/ticket, and the whole theater to ourselves!), had a yummy dinner at a new BBQ place on an outdoor patio, and saw a gorgeous sunset on the way home.  And just enjoyed a bowl of ice cream, too!  Can't beat that.  :)

Karli - great to hear on the move!!! Ds used to get the hiccups CONSTANTLY & after he was born he got them pretty regular for the first few months. This baby has only had them once that I noticed - funny.

not_telling - sorry you had such a strange appt - hopefully things sort themselves out  - perhaps you were a little dehydrated?

theboysmama - gotta love the comments from strangers! I have to admit I do kind of like when random strangers ask when I'm due now - I feel like I finally look so definitely pregnant that people aren't afraid to take the risk (as in they don't think I just look fat).

beautifulmoon - how did you get the poison ivy on your belly? That's awful - I get baaad reactions from the stuff & can't imagine! What a great idea to return the stuff you don't need - big chain stores do tend to be pretty easy in this regard.

starling - you must do laundry a lot more often than me or have a neater child - I have 6 drawers for ds!!! & I still run out of clean shirts for the kid sometimes - it's ridiculous really!

teruterubozo - love the rack! Minister of Output/Input - fabulous!

afm - back from my trip out east. Had to leave really early yesterday morning to try to avoid the hurricane influenced storms - managed to make it to my destination before it got really bad. Was a long day of driving though 'cause I felt kind of stressed about the whole thing. Ds did fabulous though with all the driving though.

So I think I may finally be nesting!!! I only got home this afternoon but have already hung out laundry, unpacked the truck from our trip (this is unheard of - usually the bags sit in the vehicle or the entranceway for extended periods), hung pictures/candleholders/mirrors on the walls & tidied up outside plus my workout.

I would love for this baby to just come!!! I know it is still early but I am not enjoying being so uncomfortably big anymore. So my goal this week is to pack my hospital bag, make up the gift basket for the nurses, make the newborn diapers & make bedroom curtains. That way she knows I'm prepared & can come whenever she is ready!

Nursery - we never made one up at all for ds. We made a "big boy" room when he was 18 months & he was ready for his own bed (well, sort of, he still was in our bed half the night). This time we've set up the crib in his room (they'll share when the time comes) but realistically I know she will be in our room for at least 6 months - likely longer.

Surviving sleep deprivation one day at a time with dd (Oct '11) & ds (Oct '08).

Leiahs, I read some bad reviews of the WonderWash, unfortunately. We were going to get one but I heard they leak and the handle falls off. Do you have a pattern for co-sleeper sheets or are you making flat ones? We need to get/make some as well. Ugh! The more I think about things we have left the more I start to panic.

That's too bad, that it's gotten bad reviews!  Seemed like such a simple, easy solution if you're willing to put the time in.  Well, I hope you find a good solution, no matter what it ends up being!

I don't have a pattern for co-sleeper sheets.  I was thinking of copying it exactly, but MIL suggested that it would be easier to basically make a pillowcase (based on the size of the top part of the sheet) and sew on some velcro in the right places o the underside before I sew it all together.  I love her idea - it's definitely more simple and less time-consuming! - I just have to take the time to make sure that will work!  Otherwise I'm just going to trace the shapes and add seam allowances.

I just looked at the link for the wonder wash. It sais that other knock offs have those defects but they don't and they listed why.
I think I might want to get one if we start camping again. My kids get soooo Nasty when we camp and we have to devote e tire days and lots of money for washing.

None of my babies have ever had hiccups that I know o..hmmm, I wonder why.

Not too much going on here. I have this week off of work. Yay!! I have been looking forward to this time off for the last 2 months. I'm a nanny and love my job, but a break is always nice : )

I don't think I've ever felt my baby have the hiccups. I'm going to try to pay attention and see if I notice it.

I feel like I have SO much to get done before this little guy shows up. I'm going to try to start washing all of his clothes this week. It's all in his dresser and closet, just not washed yet. His crib is together, just doesn't have the sheet on it yet. I only have a 1 bedroom apartment, so he will be in the room with me for now. Hopefully when he is about 7 months old I can move into a 2 bedroom apartment. If only rent wasn't so expensive here on Long Island.....lol.

I also want to start sort of putting the goody baskets together for the nurses. I guess I need to find baskets first. Maybe I'll go to Michaels or Home Goods.

I need to do my birth plan.

I haven't heard back from my midwife about my 24 hour urine test. I guess I can call her to see if she has the results yet. I'm really really hoping that I don't have pre-eclampsia.

teruterubozo - with my first kiddo we did not have a washing machine either :(

we only had 6 prefolds and all the rest were flats made from thrifted flannel sheets....they were great!!! I washed them in the bathtub and they dried quckly over night :)

Maybe you could whip up some flats to start with and use the prefolds later....they take forever to dry :(

I like the new social group idea :)  although every baby group I have belonged to fizzled anyway....lol

I really wanted to enjoy this pregnancy and "take it all in" since it will be my last, but it has been the worst one! Tired very uncomfortable the entire pg! I hope a lunch time swim will perk me up....

32 wks today so close yet sooo far orngtongue.gif
