41 weeks today and still not a sign of impending labor. Funny how much I am looking forward to feeling some pain. The baby was super active last night and I could not sleep...I haven't had insomnia since high school and I sure didn't miss it. I'm so tired right now that going into labor would probably be exhausting. My sister is here from out of town for the week and so the pressure is on...I don't think she would have planned to spend her vacation with us except that she wants to see the baby. It is frustrating though because besides entertaining my other kids here and there she is no help at all. Last night I cooked us a nice dinner...mentioned how painful standing and walking is..reminded the kids to clear their own spots..and yet she got up from the table and left me with the mess and dishes to do by myself...grrr...and that is how she is..it is going to be a frustrating week to say the least!

Emmaegbert- We are battling colds here too. I was taking emergen-c and thought that I had read it may help labor start...so I decided to look it up. Turns out the magnesium in it may help to stall or slow labor!! So I took that off my list of remedies real quick!

no kidding!?! I take magnesium for leg cramps... maybe I'll stop for now and see if I'm okay on that score... and I'll switch to the chewable C I just bought for the kids (DD *loves* the chewable C and elderberry syrup, BTW)

FYI I always noticed that when I was a babysitter. And now I am a mom. And guess what? They do it to me. Perfect easy kids with everyone else and freaking crazy people with me. (not all of the time. but frequently particularly after a separation, even a normal daily one like school).

Interesting--I just took magnesium last night because I had somewhat twitchy legs for a couple of nights. I think it helped me, as it didn't happen again, but man have I been pooey today.

I'm glad dd likes the elderberry syrup, emma!

emmaegbert- I am very curious to see what happens when I have my own child. I've been a nanny for the last 10 years, so I feel like I have a good "handle" on children, but I know it's totally different when it's your own.

I just got back from lunch at the diner, and can no longer sit in a booth. The table totally goes into my belly greensad.gif    I also seem to be hungry ALL the time the last few days.

Come on baby.........I'm ready for you........

I'm hungry all the time, too, cbeclipse. But I have been making pretty poor choices. I made pumpkin bread and have eaten tons of it. Also, chocolate, candy, anything "quick" energy is what I'm going for. I just ate a black bean salad; hoping that the healthy helps.

Rosemary- I made pumpkin muffins over the weekend (thank goodness I froze half of them so I couldn't eat them all!), a cheesecake, pumpkin pudding and pumpkin pie. Can anyone tell I just love pumpkin?? Clearly not the things I should be eating right now....

I had soup and grilled cheese for lunch 2 hours ago. I am now starving again.

cbeclipse, I predict that you will be a GREAT MOM and that your 10 years of working with kids will be an amazing preparation. But being a mom will also cause you to reevaluate- as it should- many things that you experienced and saw from the "other side" so to speak. I was not a nanny for 10 years but did a lot of more casual childcare (and some fill-in nanny work, like a couple months at a time), and also worked with kids in afterschool and recreational programs for many years. Boy did I learn a lot from all those kids, but its still nothing compared to having your own.

I too am hungry all the time and feel like I spend half my life either eating, preparing to eat, shopping for food, or preparing food for other family members. Its really challenging for me to stick to my diet. I am eating a nice big bowl of ice cream every night. MAN do I look forward to that ice cream. Otherwise trying to stay away from the carbs except in extreme moderation (and ice cream really isn't too bad... like, less carbs in a serving of haagen daaz ice cream than in many more seemingly healthy bread things). Carby/sweet stuff definitely calls out to me! I do know to eat every 2.5-3 hours or so... just to plan on it... so I don't get so ravenous that I absolutely can't make a good choice.

I'm no longer here either!  Happy to report that a membrane stretch and sweep (or maybe coincidence) when 1 cm dilated, soft, maybe only 1 cm effaced did the trick and 7 lb baby girl is here (41+2).  I was able to avoid medical induction.  And despite my idea that I didn't originally want my waters broken artificially, it was the most relieving thing that has ever happened to my body when stuck in transition and wondering why.  I was convinced I wanted a water birth...but once there couldn't imagine staying still long enough to get in the tub.  This labour was far more painful (but still short thankfully) than my pitocen induced labour with dd1.  Night labour and birth with no sleep whatsoever that night...and I survived.  In fact, driving to the hospital at night was very peaceful.  For those who worry about not having the energy for labour b/c of insomia or lack of sleep....you WILL find that strength and your body will guide you, not your mind.  The problem with the waiting game is that the mind is too active....

Enjoy the bumps and wiggles and feeling and guessing the baby body parts.  Soon enough he/she will be here.

Blessings

emmaegbert- Thank you, I really hope to be a great mom!! I can relate to really looking forward to something everyday.....for me it's my iced decaf coffee from Dunkin Donuts. It helps me get through the morning without being too crabby.

Our little pregnant group is getting smaller and smaller. Today is my EDD. Midwife appt tonight, where I hope to be dialated enough for her to do a stretch and sweep. Last week I wasn't dialated at all, so who knows if I will be. I did go on a walk yesterday afternoon. Will try to go on another walk today, since I think starting tomorrow it will be rainy here for a few days.

Off to shower and work I go........wish I didn't have to work anymore. Oh well!

cbeclipse, I agree that your experience will come in handy with your own lo, but that it will be very different. Just from my friend who is a daycare provider (private, in home) and who has found actual motherhood to be way different. For her, it is that her ds doesn't go home at the end of the day that has been the strangest adjustment, but there are other things. However, you'll be really experienced in things that other new moms are not!

dot1--hooray! Thank you for sharing!

emmaegbert, good morning to you--sorry you are still here--but at least I'm not here all by myself ;)

I just had the best night's sleep, best being a relative, pregnant term in this case, since I had a brief awakening around 5 where I had to read a little bit, but not much, before going back to sleep. It's 8.30 and I just got out of bed. Rock on.

are you still pregnant gals starting to feel slightly crazy about food? I can't stop shopping and stocking my kitchen. NOW, my kitchen is MINISCULE-truly- a galley kitchen in the hallway between the two halves of our less-than-600sf apartment, but I can't stand the thought of being "out" of anything, and I am finding weird new places to stash stuff (canned beans on top of the stove hood right now).

Yah I am trying to make sure I don't run out of stuff.  I have a pretty big kitchen so I have enough room for dry goods.  My problem is that I have a moth problem so everything I buy not in a can or jar needs to be put there.  I feel like everytime I go grocery shopping I am spending so much money trying to keep my pantry stocked because I need to either buy something in a container and not a bag or box or I need to buy a seprate container for it.  I also just stocked up on dog food, toliletries, cleaning supplies, toilet paper and paper towels.  I don't even use paper towels that much.  The last thing I want post partum is to have to run out to the store for one of these things, especially since my DP doesn't drive.

I'm far from stockpiling food around here. Probably because I'm a personal chef and food is my job, and I'm on the 2nd to last day before I give myself leave, the grocery store feels like the enemy. We haven't got a lot. You would not know by the appearance of the fridge, which needs a major purge!

The only food-related thing I'm doing, really, is thinking about the delicious salami-and-brie sandwich I'm going to eat as soon as baby's here.  Yum, salami AND brie!  Oh yeah, and I want to eat all the baked goods.  I made four loaves of banana bread, intending to freeze three of them.  I froze two, and when the last slice of the two fresh ones was gone I was sorely tempted to go and get one of the frozen ones out.  I made naan bread instead, but it's really not doing it.  If I could just get the energy up to clean my kitchen I could make pumpkin pie!  That would be pretty great.

On a farm with our kiddo (nearly 2), two dogs, two cats, ten goats, two donkeys, nine sheep, a bunch of chickens, and a husband (in the winters). We have another on the way!

Oh, well let's not mistake not stockpiling for not eating, because I've been a veritable garbage disposal. I wasn't going to open the bag of Lindt truffles that a friend gave me but I did. I've gained 29 lbs this pregnancy but seems like I really want to increase that by another 29 in the next few days.

still pregnant. Actually, time to walk home and get ready for MW visit. Hoping this is the last prenatal visit I guess... but we'll go ahead and schedule the BPP for next week. I kind of thought last night might be the night... but nah, just tired, and had to use the bathroom (A LOT) and maybe a little dehydrated.

Just got back home.  I had my last prenatal appt with my doctor before I'm referred to the "postdates" clinic at our hospital rolleyes.gif

She did a sweep and said my cervix had come a long way since last week and this was a good sweep, she thinking it should work.  I walked around the mall for an hour and a half afterwards.  If it doesn't work I have an appt for another one of Friday.

Fingers crossed!!!!!!!!!

hey still here nothing going on. even DTD which made DH happy but didn't do anything other than wake me up and make it hard to fall back asleep. So I guess I'm going to the party and DS's school after all. Blah. Well, its a mile walk each way which can't hurt. Going to schedule the post-dates BPP for middle of next week (when I'll be 41w+ something).

I am feeling okay, better mood than I was a few days ago, but I am SO FREAKING TIRED especially at the end of the day. MW says that is normal. My body is doing a lot of work. Good prenatal yesterday. Everything looks AOK. Nobody worked up about post-dates.

BPP= biophysical profile. Its basically a specialized/detailed sonogram. my MWs say they ignore the size check component because it is so inaccurate (with all my pregnancies the MWs say that hands on exam tells them more about size than a sono), but they look at the condition of the placenta (blood flow, calcification) the muscle tone of the baby, and fluid levels. Anyway, we discussed this at some length and I feel good about the decision to schedule it and the information it can give us moving forward to manage my post-dates period, but I hope I have the baby before the appointment.

Katico- have you tried acupuncture?  A friend did a little treatment on me when I was 40+3 with my second, and I did have DD the next day (unfortunately we've moved and I can't call upon that friend so easily for help!). She was doing a very gentle treatment too, not intended to start labor-- there are points that supposedly trigger uterine contractions-- my MWs said that we can start that around 41 weeks or when I want to.

Emmaegbert- Glad you had a good prenatal yesterday.

I will also have to get postdate testing next Thursday or Friday if I haven't delivered by then. Hoping I won't have to. They just did a BPP last Thursday, and things were fine.

I have to work today, but not until noon. I'm trying to figure out what to wear today, it's suppose to rain all day, and get cold. I have no clothes that fit for this weather! Or shoes! I have been living in flip flops the last few months.

Seriously!! I am so lucky that someone loaned me a "mama coat" which has a pregnancy zip-in panel and a babywearing panel, and is water resistant. My feet are normal size thank goodness. (especially b/c they are big to begin with). Flip flops in the rain might not be the worst. But yeah, I saw that its supposed to get cold during the day. (we're fairly close to eachother... you guys get a little more weather out there, but pretty much the same)

We are pretty close aren't we? I'm close to the Nassau/Queens boarder, on the north shore. I don't have a coat that fits me right now. I have just been wearing a sweatshirt, that I can't zip up. I don't even really have pants, I've been wearing capri's. Maybe I can get away with wearing some pajama pants to work today......lol. I think I have some solid color ones that still fit. I do have a new pair of Uggs that I haven't worn yet. I could break them out today. Hopefully they still fit!

My mom is coming again today. Hopefully no fire engine noises in the middle of the night! I'm grateful for the help because I, too, am exhausted and DS is...not. He's actually been pretty great, but does want me to play with him a lot. Last thing I want to do. :(

I can't imagine capris and flip flops in this weather, Chelsea. I'm up north of Boston and there is actual snow in the forecast for some areas here tonight. We're coastal, so we won't get that, but it's cold! I don't want to turn on the heat yet because I try to wait until mid-November usually. Ugh.

The baby is doing some crazy moves under my ribs. I think it's her big butt.

If my labor was going to go exactly as it did last time (which obviously I didn't expect) I'd have lost my mucous plug yesterday and be in agony for the next 4 days. I'm starting to wonder if this baby will be past date, but I have until Monday. I do the Sears' calculation and it was spot on with ds so I sort of have it in my mind that it will be again. I'll be shocked if I'm more than a day over. Oh, please, don't let me be more than a day over...
