Uh, why?  It's so strange that I just had to share.  What are your thoughts on this?

You know, Im open to a lot of things...but sometimes I feel like people do things just for the "WTF reaction" they can get from it.

I love this... seen it before and think it is hysterical. lol.gif

My favorite part:

How long does the baby stay under water?

Well, I plan to let the koi guide him up to me. But Shane will be standing by with a net, just in case.

DDC hopping....

Hi Ladies, I just want to let you know that the blog is not made up and that the mama is in a DDC here on MDC. She is an active and long time member. Please be gentle with your comments.

Thanks,

  Amy

Yes, but is it true or not?  I really don't think it's a funny joke to be posting such things on Mothering (and pretending that it's true).   Everyone seems to think that it's satire, but she seems to be maintaining that it's true..  :/

The mama is real and here on Mothering but the blog is a joke.  Being "convincing" or straight faced while telling it is part of what makes it funny.

There's a thread about it already if you want to see a hundredish opinions about it though.

I read the other thread.  I mean, its clever...but I wouldn't put it past somebody.  Its all just a game to see how outrageous people can be these days!

Hah! I totally thought that was real and sent it to my sister and was like, "uh, seriously... this is crazy"... She assured me it was a joke before I read further into everyone's comments here.

It's the most natural option for people who are landlocked and unable to share in the joy of having a dolphin midwife attend their birth. ;)

It's almost irritating how weird it is. lol I was reading the questions and answers and scratching my head and shaking it. What if she hemorrages and the blood kills her "precious" Koi? Could the disinfectant stuff harm or infect the vagina or baby?

Oh......Sheepish.gif It was a joke. I'm officially a dummy.

I found it offensive that she basically says  that if you have a unassisted birth your stupid irked.gif

She is a midwife. There are VERY few midwives that don't think unassisted birth is not a good choice for most women. And even fewer that would openly encourage women to UC.

Honestly, I think they feel that way cuz alot of women that UC use midwives for care or HAVE used midwives in the past and don't like it cuz they need that job security. Which I can't blame them. There are alot of birth centers closing simply because of lack of clientelle.

I don't know that I would be comfortable with a midwife who would openly encourage UC. Supporting past clients or friends through their own UC journeys, sure. But to openly encourage it, I don't know. I think it basically tells the public that they don't value their work. That they are an unnecessary accessory to a birth. I don't want a midwife with a God complex, but I do want them to feel that they can offer something useful to my birth, kwim?

That being said, the midwife I used with the two younger girls is a friend of mine. And she is supportive of my UCing. But, I came to her as a mom who wanted to UC and am honestly in a much better place to even think about UCing than I was when I first met her.

They wouldn't have to ENCOURAGE UC. I don't even encourage it, even though I want one. I just know it's the right choice for me, because I'm low risk.

I understand 100% why someone would choose a UC and ALSO I understand 100% why someone would be strongly against them in a general way.

On this one IMO both sides are right.  I wouldn't now how to pick sides and I don't understand the fight.  Lots of things in life are like that.
