Hi,

I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing the symptoms mentioned in the subject line? I am due sometime mid-november and so far, the pregnancy has been okay. I did have a UTI, which I'm unsure I got rid of, but have been having a spoonful of vinegar in cranberry juice regularly to try and manage it. The first lot of antibiotics didn't work and so I got a shot in the backside. I haven't seen the doctor since (I'm scheduled to go back this Wednesday).

On Friday, I was about an hour off finishing work when I experienced terrible cramping and it took ages for me to be able to have a movement, but a few hours later, it was a flood (sorry if this is TMI).

I've googled my symptoms and they suggest giardia. I do drink tap water (because I refuse to pay for tap water in a bottle shipped from another state), but have also been drinking water out of a purification system lately at work and I understand that sometimes these machines can harbor giardia cysts.

I went swimming in the lake two weeks ago and that was okay, but this past weekend, I went swimming again. We were approached by some guy from Army Corps of Engineers advising us to get out of the water due to red blue algae blooms reaching toxic levels. I checked online and found they had only had confirmation the day before that the algae had become a problem. It's possible, I guess, that I was exposed to it earlier.

But it's also possible, this is none of those things? I just know it's not normal for me to have diarrhea and sulfur burps (even though not quite as bad as sulfur, it's the best example I can offer) are an indicator something isn't right.

I've only been drinking milk in quantities I have since being pregnant. Could it be intolerance?

I got some powerade to help with maintaining electrolytes until I can see my doctor on Wedneday. I may see a nurse tomorrow. I don't have health insurance, so just trying to be sensible and maintain hydration and salt.

Baby seems fine. She is kicking and it's starting to become stronger and more noticeable (definitely not gas!), so I'm not worried about baby, as long as I keep the fluids up.

It's definitely possible for it to all be normal!!! Sounds a lot like my normal symptoms.

If you didn't consume a lot of milk before, it can certainly be that as well. I have to avoid all dairy while pregnant. It makes me very sick. The calcium in it isn't very bio-available to humans anyway, so it isn't really a good source for that.

I drink store bought water. it's $.75 for a 3 gallon at Wal-Mart. Girl I run people out of the house. Even that cat tries to fun. At the beginning of the pregnancy I was really constipated(?). No..... I am regular daily. I pass gas about 5x a day and every one runs. I said it's the baby. LOL. I am right there with you.

I'm sorry you're uncomfortable!  Like pp's have said it could be normal pregnancy stuff, could be dairy intolerance, could be a bug... I would think though, that a bug would be worse- more acute and less chronic like you're describing.  Maybe cut back on dairy a bit and see what happens?  Cheese and yogurt are easier to digest than milk, ice cream etc.  Maybe bring water from home?  Also you could try boosting your gut with probiotics and digestive aids.

I got giardia when I was pregnant with my second. The cramping and diarrhea were uncomfortable, but the SMELL was unreal. Like something unholy died in the bathroom. It's unmistakable. Also, if you have a stool culture done, be aware that your chances of a false negative are very likely. Mine culture came back negative and things continued to become worse, while my GP insisted I was fine. Finally my midwife put me on a gnarly regimen of chinese herbs and probiotics and it cleared up in about a week. I don't remember exactly what I was staking, but I remember her warning me that it could make me nauseated. It didn't.

Hey MamaBlue,

I had a culture done (nothing like pooing in a container to make a woman feel even more elegant than she does when she's pregnant!). The tests came up negative. I think I figured out what caused my problem. I'd been eating a bit of pasta in the last few weeks and normally, I do find it a litlte heard to digest. A few years ago, I had terrible cramping in my gut and heaps of tests done. The only thing they could find was I had a mild gluten sensitivity. (Not full-blown celiac.) So, I've laid off the pasta and everything seems to have gone back to normal.

Also, I switched peanut butters from a Skippy's crunchy to generic Kroger low-fat creamy. The Kroger burned my mouth, like an allergy. So, have stopped eating it. Oddly, I'm not allergic to peanuts (peanut m&ms are still tasty!).

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I understand that sometimes the symptoms are normal. Diarrhea for me, really isn't. I have a pretty tough bowel that I can tolerate the pregnancy constipation quite well (I just feel more gassy).
