Can you share any good transracial adoption blogs? Maybe information on hair, bonding, etc.

Carly, mama to DS C (5th grade), DD Miss M (07/09, fostered 1/10, adopted 08/10), and Little Miss C (11/10, fostered 01/11, adopted 11/12). Foster Son, Mr. A, age 11 placed 10/13.

This isn't a blog focused on transracial adoptive families, but it is a blog "on raising a family in a color struck world." The blog used to be called Anti-Racist Parent, but the blog writers eventually decided the title was too narrow and went instead with "Love Isn't Enough." That's an interesting title because its a frequently used term in adoption communities. I don't know why, but they choose to use the abbreviation "LIE." Anyway, it's a good blog in anycase, and I know many adoptive transracial family readers love it.

I'm pro-adoption reform, but not anti-adoption.

Before I got pregnant we were having TTC so we were looking into adopting from Ethiopia. I found some really great blogs, some that I still read today! My favorite is www.littlesilvestriboy.blogspot.com. From there you will find links to other blogs of families that have adopted children of another race.

Most of the ones I follow tend to be from the perspective of transratial (white/Asian) families. Some of my favorites:

Land of the Not-So-Calm (written by a Korean adult adoptee...you need to email her and ask her for a password to view most of her posts)

American Family (written by an adoptive mom...this one recently stopped posts, but her archives are extensive and AMAZING. Fantastic, funny, HONEST blog about living life with a transracial family.)

Third Mom (Adoptive mom with grown adopted children...I go back and forth on this one. I love her advocacy stance, but sometimes I feel like she takes the impact of adoption far too seriously...which is saying a lot, if you know me.)

Julia's JAM (Korean adult adoptee...this one is very sad. The author passed away in 2008, after a battle with cancer and an unsuccessful attempt to get help from her birth family. Julia was an amazing and honest writer...I often think about her, and wish we could still learn from her life, wisdom, humor, and experience.)

This is one that I really enjoyed, too, and it's a transracial family...her posts about infertility and the adoption process were amazing to read. Looks like she's in the adoption process again! Finally Arrived

This is my favorite site for coming up with new styles for my daughter, and she has links down on the right to other hair blogs.

I like reading http://myminivanrocks.wordpress.com/.  I've met the writer in person and she's really awesome.  She has one bio child, one child from Vietnam, and one biracial child from domestic adoption.  She is also a contributing writer on VVAI (Voices for Vietnam Adoption Integrety).  She frequently posts about what it means to support your children adopted transracially, and also writes a lot on adoption ethics and ethical adoption reform.

For hair care for AA kids, I like: http://www.happygirlhair.com/ and  http://www.keepmecurly.com/  Both have tons of great pics of different hairstyles and product information and reviews. There is a yahoo group called adoptionhair_skincare which is helpful and also has tons of information, links, pictures etc.

One that I really like is China Adoption Talk.  Her daughters are from China but she discusses wider issues around adoption too.

I'd like to participate in this as my son is biracial and my soon-to-be-daughter is African.  Is this a yahoo group?  How do I join?

Whistler, it's actually a local group.  The OP and I live in the same general area.

Sorry to confuse.

Oh, lol.... thought it was an online group.  Have a great time!  Locally we're fortunate to have a great group of families who have adopted from Ethiopia, unusual for such a small area.  But I don't know of a general TRA group.

I agree that www.loveisntenough.com is a MUST for transracial adoptive parents. It is a great resource. There is also a very good blog that shares those ideals at: www.adoptivemommydiaries.com  It tackles dealing with racial issues as well as new mom stuff.

Beyond The 5 Star is a good source for a wealth of information and events for transracial families of African/African American children.
