Six months after coming into our care! A minor miracle!

Our son's mom decided to place him with us for adoption, and asked for ongoing contact, and we said yes. So chalk up another on the list of "Things I Swore I'd Never Accept As a Foster/Adoptive Parent, But Have Wound Up Happy With."

This is my sweet boy, playing frisbee on the lawn, about a month after he was placed with us.

He's adorable!

thats amazing how fast it was...i think here the only way it would happen that quickly is if the child was placed as an adoptive placement and adoption papers were already filed before he moved in. We have this whole crazy system where you have to send papers to the state capital and the guardian (just one guy for all state wards in mi) has to approve it, and then once you get that you have to send papers to the subsidy office (or maybe its the subsidy office first and then the guardian's office)...its a long process. Even with my baby who was TPRd at four months, i thought we'd automatically finalize at six months post placement but no, took til he was almost 11 months. So glad you apparently have a quicker process where you are!! awesome.

Thank you all!

Katherine: it would have taken us at least that long if we had not hired a private attorney. This was not a cheap adoption (though much, much cheaper than a domestic infant adoption through an agency). We had to pay the GAL, etc. But once we knew it was what the birthmother wanted, we just went full steam ahead. We will be getting the money back in a tax credit, hopefully.

ETA: and we were prepared to give up the subsidy, though that did not end up happening. But a fight on the subsidy would have dragged it out for several more months at least.

Congratulations! He is so cute.

I remember you saying no contact. Amazing how things work. Wonderful news! Our second daughter was an open adoption through foster care. It can work.

biglaugh.gif  Hey... at least you can admit it!

Congrats.  He's gorgeous and I hope everyone is equally happy and continues to be that way in your home.
