This makes me so happy!!! I have been looking into becoming a foster parent and I was wondering if they would allow you to breastfeed a foster child. The picture is absolutely beautiful and the article made me tear up. LOVE.

My understanding is most states do NOT allow you to nurse a foster child. My adopted (at birth) daughter is a bit over 5 and is still nursing. I haven't lactated in a couple years, but she still likes to nurse about 5 minutes a day.

That's interesting, I wonder how this mama who wrote the article was able to do it. I wouldn't want to foster that age group anyway, but it's good to know.

Ally, I don't think she fostered. She adopted from Ethiopia.

Ally- My mom got a foster child taken away because she thought she was breastfeeding the infant (she wasn't) and, when she tried to fight it, they implied that if she did they'd find a way to take ME (her bio-child) away as well.

Some people do BF foster children and just lie about it, but it's very risky to do so. You can sometimes get permission to do it, but it's a difficult process.

Proud Formula Feeder, I support how ALL parents feed their babies. Breast or bottle, formula or breastmilk, and any combination thereof.

That's messed up to threaten a mother like that based on a suspicion of breastfeeding. I would feel very weird mixing formula bottles for any infant, including a non-bio.
