Someone has put together this public service video that highlights those terrible adoption questions in a funny, but educational manner!!

I know we've had other threads about it, but what were YOUR favorite nosy, awful adoption questions? Have you been asked terrible things like "where did you 'get' your child?"

My daughter's birth father is Hispanic and my son's birth parents are not. DD tans easily in the summer. I've had people ask if I put sunscreen on DS, but not on DD.

lauren 04-24-2014 08:17 PM

Wow, 'cause that is so important to know!!

We dont get too many questions like that, but i have been asked "which ones are REAL siblings??" which is super annoying.

That is a hilarious video. Thanks so much for sharing!

We rarely get awkward questions which is appreciated. But sometimes people will ask personal questions about my children's birth family. People also ask if they are "real" siblings....

One funny/annoying comment we got from a random guy was "Ohhhhhh you like the chocolate!" I guess he thought they were my bio kids and that my husband was black (my husband wasn't with me). My son who was about 5 at the time announced, "YES! We love chocolate!"

WOW. I thought I had the gold medal locked down for "offensive things actual adults will say out loud when your adopted child is within earshot" but NO. YOU WIN.

superbeans 06-24-2014 08:01 AM

I actually had one once that was even more offensive. I hate to even type it because thats how bad it was.

An older lady came up to us on the Subway and said "What are two nice white people like you doing with two n----- babies?" Yep. I think that is the only really racist thing anyone has ever said. We rarely even get unintentional offensive comments, so we were horrified by this one.

I get asked where are they from (people find it hard to believe they are both from my city, though one was born 3 hours away), are they real sisters, how long it takes to do their hair, etc. Older white women love to grab my daughters hands and kiss on them, ewwww. I have also had a stranger kiss DD on the cheek at Disneyworld, and a family in Mexico take pictures with DD in them.

"Where is he from?" is the most common question I get. It's so annoying to me because he was born here, in the city we live. Most of the people asking the question were not.

I've heard most of those, but they are rare. Most people just don't say anything or they just smile. Some people have said "good job" or "thank you" which I always find odd.

I often get "where did you get her from?" in regard to my bi-racial (bio)daughter. I must say that my answers have sometimes been NSFW :D
