I would like to start the adoption process in the next year or so. I have an 11 year old and I hope to adopt a three to five year old child. We live in the U.S. Are there resources for helping this process go smoothly? What steps should I take before starting the process.

One_Girl, are you considering international adoption, or domestic adoption from foster care? Both are certainly workable methods for bringing home a child in the 3-to-5 age range.

I want to adopt domestically but am willing to adopt abroad. I will be 35 then so hopefully being a single mom will be ok at that point. I hoped to adopt a girl bit would be willing to adopt a boy.

If you want to adopt a non-infant child domestically, getting approved by your state's child services adoption program is your first step. You'll have to take some training classes and do a bunch of paperwork. The requirements differ by state, but Googling "YourState adoption from foster care" should pull up the right website.

35 is no problem, and single mom is no problem.
