Ideas for birth mom letter

We are adopting through CAS. We are told to make a book for him/them to look through to learn about us. I was also told that the birth mom may look at the book as well. Our worker said a nice touch is writing a letter to the BM. I am trying to find examples of letters that I can write to her. I am looking for ideas on what to write. We don't know who we are adopting yet. We are to make the book about our family over the next couple of months. Does anyone know where I can go to get ideas? I know I want to say thank you but don't know what else. She doesn't choose us usually. We get matched through CAS. It will come from my heart but I need suggestions.

That sounds like a good idea! If you would like to see examples of dear birth mom letters a lot of websites have the dear birth mom letters of their waiting potential parents posted. For example if you click on a PAP profile you can read a dear birth mom letter on Spence Chapin's website:

Another thing the birth mom may want to see is pictures of your house, neighborhood, etc. Some PAP's put pictures of their neighborhood playground, public school, etc. You want the birth mom to get a feel for what life at your house would be like for her child.

As a birthmother who has placed two children into adoptive families i can tell you i have read a ton of those letters. honestly, i always thought they were sort of lame and i got much more from the book about the adoptive families. the letters always just basically summed up the book, maybe described why the choice to adopt was made (which did matter to me quite a bit), and thanked me or whatever other woman was reading it at the time, for considering them. i would just write what comes from your heart, be honest and try not to sound too contrived.

joyful mama to DS 2-05, open adoption birthmama to DD 5-07: and DS 6-98, and my littlest one 7-09. crazy in love with DH!
