www.tapestrybooks.com

A site totally devoted to adoption: international, domestic, transracial etc. You name it, they have it.

Dan Savage's "The Kid" is probably my favorite 1st person account of adoption.

if you're just looking for general info i loved he idiots guide to adoption. it goes over many kinds of adoption and alot of typical scenarios. i've read like 20 books on adoption at least and most the knowledge i have is still from this book.

I have the Idiots Guide to Adoption and even that was confusing to me :

For general information I would see if any adoption agencies are having a seminar near you that you could attend. Even if you don't choose them as an agency they will go over different programs and have knowledgeable people there to answer your questions. The seminars are free and give a great starting point. Good luck. I know Tapestry has some great resources also.

I also love "The Kid" - Dan Savage is a sex advice columnist, so the book is a tiny bit raunchy... not nearly as much so as his columns though! Dan is also gay, but the book is by no means only applicable to gays and lesbians. He and his boyfriend pursued a domestic open adoption.
I suggest this book to anyone who asks!

Here are some ideas:
Gilman, The Adoption Resource Book
Alexander-Roberts, The Essential Adoption Handbook
Adamec, Is Adoption for You: The Information You Need to Make the Right Choice
Beauvais-Godwin, The Complete Adoption Book

Also, Adoptive Families magazine is a great resource!

Good luck!

it's a first-person account, but i highly recommend an american family, by gallucio re gay adoption. it made me cry about 30 times. in a good way. check out sarah gerztenzag's new book to be released in 2007, called the other mother. note these are both about domestic adoption through the foster care system.

also attachment in adoption.
