We spent the day on the 28th of October getting the rest of the pool supplies together, had to go to the hardware store for an adapter for the tub, etc..
Came home and put the pool in the bedroom on top of blankets and a tarp. We went to a Halloween/Birthday/Costume party in the afternoon. I ate a TON of food. Including healthy and not so healthy stuff like cake(s), soda(s) and chips. That night we watched a movie and I decided that I was going to go to bed around 1145pm because I was feeling a little back achy. I was afraid that I might go into labor either over night or the next morning and I didn’t want to be tired. I lay down with my sleeping daughter and about 20 minutes later, I started to feel like I was having contrx. I had been having contrx for about 2 months on and off but these felt different. I got up and told Bryce that I thought maybe this was it. He hooked up the hose for the pool and we moved Leigh to the spare bedroom to sleep. I was having trouble trying to figure out how far apart the contrx were because they got pretty intense right away. I was leaning over the side of the tub while we were filling it to breathe through them. Somehow, I was able to determine that they were about 1-2 minutes apart but were not even a minute long. I had Bryce get my phone and I called Wendi (my midwife) She said, “Do you think you need me to come now?” And I said “pretty soon”. I then had Bryce call my doula, Michelle
(When I looked at my phone later, I had called them at 134am 136am)
I got in the pool, which was still filling and felt much better although the rushes were coming right on top of each other now. I got out to go to the bathroom and Wendi, Michelle and the other midwife, Stephanie arrived. I remember thinking that our dog barking was pissing me off and I may have said, “Shut the fucking dog up!” I know I thought it! I wanted to get back in the pool after using the bathroom but I was afraid that I would slow down my labor. I asked Wendi about it and she said that she didn’t think I needed to worry about it.
So I got in and Wendi had brought the birth stool because I had said I wanted to try it but after a VERY quick second on that, I wanted it out of the pool. Being on my hands and knees was the most comfortable position. After only a couple more contrx, I needed to push. With one big push, I felt a strong pressure and a popping. I thought at first that was his head. Wendi told me that my water had broken. With the next contrx, I pushed his head almost out and then one more and he was out. He was born with his hand aside his head, just like Leigh had been. It was 248am, less than 3 hours from my first contrx. Bryce caught him and held him until I turned around and sat down and saw that it was a boy! He was 8.2 lbs and 20in long.
We wrapped him in a towel and I held him to me for a few minutes until I birthed the placenta. Part of the placenta was retained but worked its way out after a few days.
We named our son Carson after Bryce’s granddad Jack Carr who passed away this spring. His middle name, Moss, means ‘from the water’ so we thought that was fitting since he was born in the water.http://i12.tinypic.com/6kpzuyf.jpghttp://i13.tinypic.com/2dkmwzm.jpghttp://i13.tinypic.com/33ud21k.jpghttp://i10.tinypic.com/2lbi842.jpghttp://i17.tinypic.com/872fk0k.jpghttp://i15.tinypic.com/6q9q6xf.jpghttp://i10.tinypic.com/72qh2cy.jpg
