It is SO good to read your birth story. My first, a son, was footling breech, and since I was a first time mom (and he was a stargazer) and large (9 lbs) no one here would deliver him vaginally. I am in awe of experiences like yours, slightly jealous, and so happy that there are doctors out there willing to help people with breech babies.

My 2nd was also frank breech, and my planned homebirth turned into a 2nd section. ABSOLUTELY no one wants to do a HBAC with a large (again 9 lb) breech baby on an untried pelvis....

Again, congrats. You are a birthing warrior!

That's awesome I was frank breech, and my mom managed to have a vag, drug-free frank breech birth at a hospital 32 years ago. I have no idea how she pulled that off...

My dd was frank breech until the day before she was born. I was in the car, on the way to have external version done, and whap! she flipped 90 degrees, so she was sideways (ouch!), and then whap! she flipped 90 degrees again, so in the five minutes it took to get to the dr, she went from frank breech to head down, ready to go. It looked really bizzarre from the outside as she was turning! It made me glad I never saw that Alien movie, because someone else in the car watching kinda freaked out! And she was born less than 18 hours later! Hee.

Congrats, mama!

That's great! I think she is the one whose baby was 11.5# right??? Amazing how a 7# baby won't fit through most women's pelvises (: ), but somehow she had a huge baby, vbac, at home!!!

(yes, I know this reply is way overdue!)

It's great that you made the hospital give you what you needed, and that you managed to find a breech-friendly doctor! There were NONE here in Knoxville that I could find. Thank goodness for the Farm Midwifery Center! (For those who might someday be looking for a place to have a natural breech birth, you don't have to live near the center, which is near Nashville, TN. They have houses where you can stay for weeks, if needed, until the baby is born. When I was there there was a lady who had come up from Florida to have her breech baby.)

Add a third to the natural breech mission! It is possible.

(Out of the six people I know of in my family who were breech, my husband was the only one born by c-section, and the only one with any problems - the doctor sliced his bottom. He still has a scar.)

Thanks for sharing. It comforts me to know that a vaginal breech is possible even in a hospital.
