My 9 week old twins were born at 36w 4d on March 13, 2011. We were scheduled for C-section at 38w on March 31, 2011. I delivered naturally, went into labor without any aids - gave birth without any medication. My twins spent 3 days in NICU before they were released to come home.
My question: When can I stop with the "adjusted age" nonsense? My girls are hitting newborn milestones like no one's business. I see no delays whatsoever - I even see some advanced behaviors on their part. Is it really necessary for us to treat them as 5 week old newborns when they clearly behave like 2 month olds? Even their weight has caught up to other lean babies their age. BTW, I nurse around the clock.
Thanks Jennifer! :)
Wow, sounds like those babies are thriving! You know, adjusted age, like anything medical, is just a term and a tool. Research has shown that babies often speed up their development if they "know" they are coming early. In my mind, this totally makes sense for twins. Is there something about their care at the pediatrician's office that is concerning you? Technically, they were 2 weeks early. Adjusted age works well for babies that are born very preemie, and it does make sense for babies who are born at 28 or 32 weeks, for example. For your babies, it may be splitting hairs.
