Hi there -
My 6 week old's belly button hasn't closed yet. My MW has administered silver nitrate twice now - once a week ago and once 2 days ago, but it doesn't seem to do much. It is not infected, my MW isn't "worried" but it's just still open! Are we doing the right thing with silver nitrate? Any other suggestions? We keep the spot clean & dry. Baby doesn't seem to be bothered by it. Thoughts?
Thank you :)

Sometimes belly buttons take a while to close over and heal after birth. Without doing a physical exam, I can't comment on whether your baby has a belly button that will close and heal on its own. Keeping it clean and dry, and having regular assessments with a midwife or pediatrician are important. Certainly getting a second opinion from a pediatrician is advised if you are concerned.
