Hi Jennifer,

My 3 year old may have pertussis but we are unsure yet. My pediatrician is treating her with zithromax right now and is saying that she will test her for it if she doesn't improve in 48 hours. I also have a 12 month old son and both my children are not vaccinated due to a family history of a fatal reaction to the dtap vaccine (in their paternal aunt). Anyway, I am wondering if there are any homeopathic  and/or holistic remedies that I can try to reduce the severity of the illness if it is in fact pertussis and reduce the chance of my son getting it at all. Thanks so much for your help!

Jax

Many natural remedies and homeopathics may be appropriate for your daughter, whether she has pertussis or another type of respiratory infection.  Since prescription of remedies, especially homeopathics, is so individual, you must visit a licensed naturopathic physician or experienced homeopath to get a proper prescription.  If you need to find a naturopath in your area, www.naturopathic.org has a very helpful physician finder for licensed physicians.  General supportive health measures, such as enough clean water, nourishing soups made with bone broths, and baths with epsom salts can be very helpful.
