36 hours ago my daughter was in a 4 wheeler accident and had to have out patient surgery on her face. Yesterday and today she has been pretending to BF from me, even one time going so far as to try to get under my shirt. Also, yesterday and today she has been playing like she is a baby. I assume she is trying cope with the trauma she went through. How can I assist with this?
Yes. The sweet dear is looking for familiar sources of comfort where the present is scary and uncomfortable. Be with her as much as you can and don’t worry about going along with her baby-like behaviors, or even facilitating them some. Share stories about happy toddler days and eventually progress these forward. Give her all the snuggling you can. These behaviors will fade away gradually as soon as she’s home and feeling better.
