Sorry I didn't post yesterday... We didn't get great news.  We were able to see the yolk sac but no baby yet (so obviously no heartbeat).

Dr. says I'm measuring 5w, 2d.  She didn't seem at all concerned at first, even though I'm 6w 5d by LMP- everything looks normal for a 5w ultrasound.  I'm worried because I had a BFP 3 weeks ago and really think I should be further along... When I told her I should be almost 7 weeks she said "no, you're only measuring at 5w 2 days", still didn't seem worried.  I told her I had a BFP 3 weeks ago and she said "well that is consistent with about 5 weeks pg" ???  That doesn't even make sense to me.  She said maybe I o'd late and I told her I almost always O early.  Once I convinced her that I really should be closer to 7 weeks she was concerned and got kind of quiet, she said if I'm really almost 7 weeks then we might have a problem, but there is nothing we can do but wait.  She did more bloodwork and I'm going back in a week for another ultrasound.

So now I'm totally in limbo.  I'm trying to stay positive, I did have a really low first HCG# 3 weeks ago so maybe I'm a few days further behind than I think.  I just know I'm further along than 5w, 2d... but I'm trying to remind myself that early ultrasounds aren't perfectly accurate either :)  My DH is not too worried, he thinks everything is going to work out...

sweetest, was the doctor maybe telling you the baby was 5w2d old?  Because the way pregnancy is dated, the first two weeks of your pregnancy are the weeks before you ovulate. So if you are 7w pregnant, your baby is 5w old. Does that make sense?  I don't know if that's what your doctor meant but maybe that's where the confusion is?

Sweetest, that does sound really confusing. Do you have a for sure ovulation date? Or do you just generally ovulate early and imagine that you did so this time too? I'm so sorry that you have to live with the uncertainty for a week. Hopefully, you'll get some clear and positive answers next week! Until then, go with your husband's hunch. And what do you think of BeanSprout's idea (hi Beansprout, btw!)? Sounds plausible to me...

Beansprout - I'm pretty sure the Dr. was talking about gestational age (adding the 2 weeks...)  I did think about that though.  The thing is that a 5w 2d baby age should show a baby and a heartbeat, so I would be concerned either way.

Emaya - For the first time in almost two years I really don't know for sure when I O'd.  I just have never o'd later than day 14 and almost always by 11 or 12.  I'm really hoping I did just O late or implant late.  I'm still feeling mild symptoms and I don't have any spotting so I'm trying to keep positive.  My HCG level on day 27 of my cycle was 23 so I suppose it's possible that was only 8 or 9 days after O, which would push me back to about 6wk, 1 day yesterday (I was assuming a day 14 O).  I'm less alarmed about not seeing a baby at 6 weeks than I am at 6w 5d...

sweetest, hoping for you and your baby! I think it's possible your dates are just a bit off. My doctor doesn't do the first appointment until at least 6 weeks because there's not much to see before then. I think even at 6 weeks, you don't always see something. My appt was at 7w+1d, and the baby was only 1cm long (and didn't look much like a baby yet), so there might not have been much of anything to see the week before. Last time, I didn't go in until 8 weeks.

Your betas were good, you have symptoms, and no spotting/bleeding. That is a good sign, I think. fingersx.gif

Sweetbee - thanks for the encouragement.  I was actually 6w 5d (by LMP) when I had the ultrasound, I'm 7 weeks today.  I really don't think my dates could be off by more than 4 or 5 days because of when I had my BFP, and even then that would mean I had a BFP at 7 or 8 dpo...  I did read on a reputable site that fetal pole develops between 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 weeks so I'm feeling better about that anyway.  I'm trying not to worry about it too much yet...

So, I forgot to mention earlier, that I don't like the OB that I saw.  I'm going to go ahead and go back for my follow-up (I'll actually be seeing a different OB) and then if everything is progressing I'm going to find a new OB.  The Dr. I saw was really negative about VBAC (even though I've already had one before).  She didn't say she wouldn't do one but she was completely unsupportive and essentially told me that unless everything in the pregnancy is perfect she will not do a VBAC (nor will any of the Dr's in the practice).  When I told her that my son was a VBAC with forcep delivery she went on and on about how that never should have happened and that no one in her practice will use forceps in a VBAC - I really trusted the Dr. who did my VBAC and felt like he took every precaution so I was a little pissed about her implication that he did an unsafe VBAC...  I've never had a baby in the US and didn't realize it would be so difficult to find a VBAC friendly Dr...

I"m sorry you're going through this... and I hope everything turns out fine and you just O'd later than you thought.  I have heard of ppl getting BFP 8 DPO.

Also wanted to say that you might try posting a request for VBAC OB referrals in Finding your Tribe.  OB's ok with VBAC are hard to find, but the ladies in your tribal area probably know who they are!

Good luck with everything!

Beautiful pictures, Sweetbee! I definitely see some progress :) How do you get them so perfect -- same angle/same distance/same pose? Is your dh taking them? I'm inspired. I need to document this time around, since this is planned to be our last baby.

So I've been feeling COMPLETELY AWFUL. It's been so strange to me - no nausea last time, and now I'm getting nauseous every day. But I read the side effects on my iron pills last night (after taking one) and it squared with what I've got: diarreah (no, I'm never going to learn how to spell that word, because I don't plan on having much use for it), nausea, bad stomach, gas (major gas). So I'm excited to stop taking them and see if I get back to my old self. I'm still eating like a horse, but not enjoying myself.

Dreamed last night that I had a wonderful birth (though the husband was away on business) of a little girl (well, actually, she looked to be about 8 months old in my dream but I didn't notice that until I woke up and thought about it). She was beautiful and had brown skin and brown eyes (also didn't think about that strange fact until I woke up -- my husband and I are blonde/blue eyed). She was crawling all around the hospital, and I had to lift my shirt and shake my breasts to get her to come to me and nurse! Ha ha. I called my dh (in my dream) and he wanted to call her Asa, even after I explained that that was a boy's name.

How about the rest of you, any baby dreams?

Sweetest, is your next appointment this week on Wednesday again?

Thanks, Emayasmile.gif My husband has taken all the photos so far. We do them in the same room, against a bare wall with enough natural light coming in through the window on the opposite side of the room. He takes a lot (beauty of digital!), then I pick one after viewing on my computer. I cropped them to be about the same composition.

Last time, he was gone a few times for the belly pics, so I used a tripod and a remote. It worked fine, though you could often see the remote in the photo. Alternatively, you could use a timer.

Anyone else have belly pics yet?

Sweetest, thinking of you as you wait for your next appointment.

Sweetbee - those pictures are adorable!  It definitely looks like your uterus is starting to push your very tiny tummy out a bit :)  I noticed right away that you were in maternity pants already!

Emaya - I've been having vivid dreams but not baby dreams - I usually don't remember my dreams...

My next ultrasound is actually on Thursday morning - they changed it, so now I have to wait a whole extra day, ugh.  I'm trying to keep positive.  DH still thinks there is nothing to worry about...  I think it could go either way.  I've definitely been feeling more pregnancy symptoms over the weekend (very tender breasts, no appetite, and I was really nauseous last night)  I figured out the latest I could have been at the last ultrasound was 6w 1d, so I guess its possible to not see a fetal pole at that point.  I've been reading that seeing a yolk sac is a good sign and my gestational sac was only measuring at 5 weeks too, so I think that's a good sign.  I think they are more concerned when gestational sac is measuring later and there is no fetus.  Dr. wasn't worried at all when she first saw the ultrasound and only seemed concerned when I said I thought I was 7 weeks (it was right on the screen that I was 6w 5d from LMP, she didn't even ask me about it until I brought it up). Dr. was in a hurry so I didn't get much time to talk through it all with her...

Emaya - I've had a couple of dreams that I had a little girl.  I don't know if that's intuition or just because my DD says she's getting a baby sister.  winky.gif

In other news, still feeling nauseous though not nearly as much.  I got a low fever on Wednesday last week that lasted only a few hours and then I've had a sinus infection/cough for the rest of the time.  I think once my illness clears up I'll feel heaps better.  The exhaustion is really bad though and I don't expect that to go away soon.

Chilichiki - I'm hoping for good news for you too (and a cute pic!)

MommyM - Hope you're feeling better... sick and pregnant is not a fun combination greensad.gif

I'm feeling a lot more pregnant the last few days.  Over the weekend my breasts started aching and they feel really heavy if I'm not wearing a bra (I'm an A cup so that is definitely not normal for me, ha)  My lack of appetite is getting worse, most of the time I don't want to eat anything... yesterday I ate nothing in the morning, I had a banana and some dry rice chex when my kids ate lunch, white rice with a little bit of steak in the afternoon (because I knew I had to eat something), and my DH brought be home a protein style hamburger and fries (because that was the only thing that even slightly appealed to me).  I'm definitely off the Paleo wagon at the moment...I'm even having Ice cream at night when I can stomach it because I feel like I need calories!)   My sudden increase in symptoms makes me wonder if maybe I am off from my dates...

Also got a killer migraine yesterday that took about an hour to peak and then I had a mild  headache all day and last night I was having hot flashes... my hormones are definitely going crazy!  I really hope that's a good thing!

Well, I'm feeling a lot better today.  Thanks for asking!  In fact, I was so hungry that I went and bought a few things that sounded good at the moment and then at a bit of each... and now my tummy hurts.  I did it to myself!  LOL  I, too, am definitely off the Paleo wagon.  The only thing I've been able to get down for the past week-and-a-half are carbs, you know, the refined white kind.

I'm glad you're really "feeling" it now!  love.gif

sweetest- I am sooo with you on not wanting to eat anything! I force myself to choke down crackers.  The past few days I am gagging non stop, generally over nothing.  My son was eating Fritos today and walked over to ask me something and just the smell of them on his breath made my stomach turn!!

This super human sense of smell is driving me crazy!! Its bad enough feeling sick all the time, but all these smells are amplifying it so much!!

i am going to talk to my doctor tomorrow and see if he can give me something to stop the nausea...Maybe then I can eat.  I weighed myself tonight and I have lost 5 lbs in the past week. I hate it!!!

Sweetest, that's a really great sign that your symptoms are getting stronger. I really think your O just was off, if you weren't tracking it. My O date varied a lot over the past year. This cycle it was on CD16, but it went as late as CD30. That would be a huge difference in EDD.

chilichiki, hope your appointment goes well. Let us know, ok?

MommyM, I'm starting to feel a little better, too, I think. Hope I didn't just jinx it. winky.gif Every week has been worse, but week 9 has so far been better than week 8. Maybe it will be the same for you? I still can't stand the sight of my vitamin, though. It makes me gag. My doctor is not going to be happy.

I just got some new maternity clothes, yay! I didn't have anything summery last time because I had a spring baby. I also started doing prenatal workouts yesterday with a DVD. I'm feeling a bit sore now, so I'll need to give my muscles a rest before doing the next one. You'd think I would be ok because I was doing all that pilates before getting pregnant, but apparently I'm just a wimp. redface.gif

Had my appointment earlier and all is well.  Was able to see the yolk sac as well as the baby and see and hear that perfect little heart beat!  the doctor also prescribed me something for my severe nausea which seems to be working so far.  Its a suppository, so I am not too crazy about that...but being able to finally eat something was amazing!!!

hope all you mommies are doing and feeling well!

Thanks for all your thoughts ladies!  I'm still in limbo over here...

Dr. was able to see the heartbeat this time and thought she saw the beginning of a fetal pole (I don't remember her saying this but DH told me she said she thought she saw it squished up on the edge of the gestational sac).   She didn't measure the HB, but we definitely saw it...  So now I know there is a baby in there, but I'm really worried that things seem to be going too slowly.   I was measuring 5w 2d last Wed, today she said 5w 6d.  Not a weeks worth of growth but something...

Again this Dr. said maybe my dates are wrong, but by my calculations I am 7w 2d at the absolute earliest (that would be assuming I got my BFP 7 days after conception!) by LMP I am 7w 6d.  I know I'm more than 6 weeks pg, but I also know that ultrasounds have some margin for error shrug.gif   Dr. wasn't too reassuring nor was she overly concerned, so I guess all I have to do is just wait for another week (followup ultrasound next Friday)

I'm actually doing ok.  Had a teary phone conversation with my mom who helped me put everything into perspective.  DH is still very positive, so I'm going to try to follow his lead!

Hope you are all doing well!

Welcome Kewpie! Goodness, 12 years. May I ask how old you are? I imagine you started quite young. And a m/c at 11 weeks, I'm so sorry. I can understand why you feel cautious. I hope you're allowing the joy to sneak in too.

Sweetest, I'm sorry you're still in limbo! How frustrating! I was so hoping for definitive positive news from you (though what really is definitive when it comes to all this baby-making stuff? I'm still hoping my dd is going to make it, and she's almost 3. I think it lasts forever.)

Contactmaya - I'm into salads too! What are you making? We have tons of lettuce, arugala, asparagus, and radishes in the garden now, so its different combinations of that mixed with my favorite dressing: fresh lemon juice (or lime), lots of sea salt, good olive oil, juice from the caper bottle, garlic, and pepper. Pretty much anything with that dressing makes me happy.

I stopped taking my iron pills and feel much better. I've been eating pretty well and scoffing down loads of roasted and salted pumpkin seeds for the iron. I felt so good this morning, in fact, I was nearly bouncing off the walls, back to my old self, teasing my husband and daughter relentlessly through breakfast. But then I got the sinking feeling -- no symptoms = problem. And I had a dream last night (I know, I need to stop thinking about my stupid dreams) that I started bleeding. So now I'm sitting here at work (only two days left before summer break!) thinking, hoping, maybe I do feel the slightest bit of nausea...yes, definitely, I only have to think of the smell of sesame oil and I want to barf (some spilled in our car on the way home from the grocery store, and the thing reeks).

Kewpie, I've added you to the front page. Congratulations!

sweetest, I think ultrasounds are not always so accurate, and then the interpretation is based on the skill of the person doing it, too. It's encouraging that there has been development since the last one.

Emaya, I think it's great that you're feeling better. This week, I'm not having nausea all the time like before, though it seems stronger when it does hit. I still haven't thrown up (been close many times), and I think it's because I know how to avoid those triggers better this time around.

Overall, I feel kind of different than last time around. Different cravings/eating habits. Somewhat different flavor of nausea. More tired. It makes me wonder if maybe this one is a girl. Then again, I'm still guessing boy due to my husband's family tradition of having only boys. orngtongue.gif

P.S. Eating a peanut butter sandwich right now. I also craved peanut butter last time (the only same craving so far). Weird. I never eat it usually; it's kind of expensive here. Oh, well. Num, num, says baby. winky.gif

Sweet bee - Thanks!

Emaya - I'm almost 31 (next week).  We got married at 19 and started trying right after.  We moved to fertility treatments about 4 years into marriage and tried various treatments and surgery with a couple years in between each until deciding to move to IVF last fall.  Yeah, the m/c was a pretty low blow after everything.  We're feeling really hopeful about the twins cause by this point in my last pregnancy, they had already discovered something was wrong.  This time, everything is the way it should be.  We don't know 100% what caused the last m/c, but the doctor is pretty sure it was chromosome abnormality.

I do have a subchorionic hematoma next to baby A right now that's making the doctor a little nervous, but I'm on bedrest for another week before he checks it again.  I understand that most of the time, they clear up on their own after a few weeks.

How's everyone feeling?

I hit 10 weeks yesterday. My next appointment is a week from Friday. The nausea is still here, but it's not the all-day variety anymore; rather, it's triggered by just about any smell, but I'll take that over being constantly queasy.

Glad you're feeling better, SweetBee. Lucky you to have another appointment so soon. I might wander in to see if they'll check my iron, but I don't have another appointment until August 1st. Feeling ok here. I'm leaving for El Salvador in two weeks, and will stay for 10 days. I planned the trip a long time ago, not thinking I was going to be pregnant anytime soon (since it hadn't happened...). I was a Peace Corps volunteer there for three years about 8 years ago, and I want to get back to my village and renew friendships. Now that I'm pregnant, though, I'm feeling a little worried. I don't want to get malaria, dengue, or any nasty stomach bacteria while in early pregnancy. And I'm not feeling terribly energetic. But mostly, I'm totally stressed and anxious to leave my dd for that long. The longest I've been away from her is 2 days. I have separation anxiety. I know she'll be fine - she might miss me a bit, but she'll have a great time with dad all to herself. But I'll yearn for her.

Emaya, how exciting that you're taking a trip! I hope you don't get sick. When I visited Latin America, I drank boiled/bottled water and steered clear of the street food vendors, and I didn't get anything nasty.

I guess we'll probably be driving a few hours to see family in ~2 months. I'm not looking forward to it because my nausea kicks up to vomiting if I'm in a car too long. Ugh.
