Our little girl Lyra was born at home early Monday morning. 49cm and 3010g (19.3in/6.6lb). Born at 39w1d.

I woke up around 3 when my water broke for real (after days of off and on leaking). The contractions followed within a few minutes. After about half an hour of pacing around, I asked my husband to call the midwives, as the contractions were already about 2 minutes apart and strong.

Soon afterward, labor intensified, and I felt that my body was beginning to push. Her head was crowning, so my husband

helped me to climb into the bathtub. A few seconds later, she came out, caught by her daddy.

He wrapped her in a towel to keep her warm while we waited for the midwives to arrive. It was a sort of awkward position, standing in the bathtub with her umbilical cord hanging out of me. winky.gif Our 2.5-year-old was awoken by my scream as I pushed the baby out. He came into the bathroom, saw the blood in the bathtub, and said "red!" He didn't seem the least bit bothered, though he was very excited to meet his new little sister.

The midwives arrived a few minutes later, just in time to deliver the placenta.

Aw, yay congrats!!  Were the midwives shocked when they got there to find baby already had arrived?  Too cute with your son, I think mine would have passed out at the sight of blood :o)

And I love the name. She shares her name with a character from one of my favorite books.

Hope you all are doing well!

Congrats Sweet Bee and welcome baby Lyra.  All these incredibly fast labors make me think I'm never going to make it to the hospital!!  Love the part about your son, too.

When my husband called the midwives, the one on call said she would leave in half an hour. Then she glanced over my file (previous 2-hour labor) and told him she would leave immediately. Haha. Still wasn't fast enough. orngtongue.gif They were impressed with my husband for being calm, but he's really just like that. He does not freak out ever. He's awesome. smile.gif

I am so glad we opted for a home birth. This baby would have been born in the car!

Congratulations! What a wonderful birth story. I have a friend who also has babies so fast the midwives never make it, but she always says better late midwives than babies born in the car!
