I'm a new CBE in my area. We are very rural, with few practitioners for pregnant mamas. It is likely the majority of my clients/students will be delivering at one hospital with one practice. I haven't been able to get an appointment with any of the practitioners there. I was wondering if I should write a letter of introduction, detailing my goals, send business cards and maybe a brochure or two. I was thinking of doing this for other doctors in the area as well. Peds....etc... Do you think this is a good idea? I'm teaching independently right now. I am open to collaborations that allow me to not compromise my belief of teaching whole information and the Lamaze 6 Healthy Birth Practices, as well as supporting women's choice of birth environment.

I think that writing a letter of introduction is a fabulous idea. When I moved into a new area, that's exactly what I did. I put together a package with a letter, brochure, business cards and some general information on midwifery. I made sure to put contact information in the letter and invited people to contact me if they wanted more information (email was the most popular). I mailed out the packages and then followed up with phones calls about 2 weeks later. Got lots of referrals from the whole process.

I a totally curious as to where you are located and any experiences you have with the local physicians... I'm a certifying doula in Ashland & was considdering using this approach as well, even though I know that there are a lot more options here since were right up against OH & WV...

On a totally side note, it would totally rock my socks if your DD was named after Emmy rossums character in Songcatcher.... My DP and I actually considdered that if our next DC is a girl....

Momma to my pants pullin down, potty learnin, "Beeeeeg Boy" who now knows his, phonetically difficult for a toddler, name! Plus 2 dogs, 35 rats, & 5 or so bunnies
